Hi im trying eve with the 14 day trial , have been playing for 3 o 4 days now.
Im doing Lvl 1 Agents missions Qty: from -20 to -3.
What I wanted to know if I can before hand know if the mission is risky or not, I have died twice even though i bought a small shield booster I wasnt able to avoid beeing killed because my capacitor went out of power and the shield went off, how can avoid this, is it possible to have the shield booster all the time on?
Any help , i woudnt like to give it up.
Thx

Were you only running the shield booster when your shield was damaged, or were you running it all the time? The shield booster "boosts" your shield back up to full; if you're looking for a static increase to max shields, you want a shield extender. Shield boosters take up a lot of capacitor, and making a perma-run booster setup takes a lot of effort. In most missions, you're able to clear enough enemies fast enough that you don't run out of capacitor.
Anyway, the more money you get for a mission, the more dangerous it is (usually). This site also provides good intelligence on what you can expect from a given mission.

As a beginner player, you will find it very difficult to keep a shield booster running all of the time. It is better to turn it on and off as needed.
Even when you are more advanced, you will rarely be able to setup your ships such that you can leave your shield booster on all of the time, without giving up some other aspect of your ship's setup.
One key to managing your shields and capacitor, is that both have a peek recharge rate at around 30%. So when your shields start to drop, turn on your shield booster, as your capacitor gets low, turn off the shield booster for a bit to let your capacitor recharge. It is best to do this before your capacitor drops below 30% so that you can maximize the amount of capacitor that will recharge.
Sometimes I find it easier to set the shield booster so that it only runs when I tell it to instead of staying on until turned off. If you right click on the shield booster when in space, you can toggle between Manual and Automatic. When set to Manual it will give a single boost to your shields when you activate it, then shut off instead of running continuosly.
You can also drag the shield booster from the middle row to the top row (also in space) to change the keyboard short cut from Alt+F? to just F?. Personally, I like to set my shield booster to F8 at the end of the top row, so that I can activate/deactivate it quickly when in the middle of combat.

There were like 6-8 rats hitting me, so the shield coudnt last long if i didnt perma boost it, so I run out of capacitor, then i bought a capacitor booster and charges but also went off of charges cause I didnt brought many thought with 6 charges I would be fine , but i was getting so much heat mixed up with lag that I coudnt warp off. So I died twice.
I dont care much about dying, what bothers me is that the insurance company gives me crap altough I assure it in platinum and gives me the Reaper ship when I had a hustle I think is called . Is the 2nd ship you get, I needed frigate II skill to use it.
So I had to buy all the things again the guns the miner, the ammo the shield ,everything and had to fly to differents parts to get it, and Im a newbie, thats not much encouraing for new players, we should get the same ship back. We lose like 1 - 2 hours to get where we were before dying.

You had a mining laser on your ship? No wonder the mission gave you so much trouble... Was your ship a Probe, a Burst, a Vigil, or a Slasher? None but perhaps the last is particularly suited for combat, and even the Slasher is a weak combatant compared to the Rifter. Try getting a Rifter and fitting it with some good 250mm artillery or 280mm howitzer artillery, and you won't be taking damage from those rats for as long.
Also, a little hint: Go to Rens and shop. All the sellers go there, so you'll have great selection and great prices, and likely everything you buy in one, perhaps two stations in the same system.

Starting the game is a steep learning curve and decent time committment. Once you get your feet under you it gets easier, although you will still lose ships.
Right now you probably don't have enough money to buy 3-4 ships worth of gear at once and have money for new skill books, etc. Eventually you will, and you will buy that gear all at once so you don't have to make a new trip each time you lose a ship. Given some time you will have multiple ships fitted out the way you need them so you can just jump into a new one if you lose a ship in a mission. This make the game much more enjoyable as you don't spend time running around.
As for you mission, are you doing the mission 'worlds collide'? That particular mission is a very difficult one even for a level 1.
And regardless of the mission you are doing, check the forums on ships fittings for advice on how to best fit a ship. Either use EVE search to see what previous suggestions have been made, or make a post there and people will give you some ideas. Perhaps you have a great fit already but they might be able to help you find some ways to improve it.

I am not sure exactly which ship you are flying, but it should be one of these. For combat missions, I recommend the Rifter, if that is not what you are already flying.
Next time you go shopping, pick up a few extra modules so that you don't need to fly around as much to pick up new stuff. You might also want to do most of your shopping in the system Rens or Hek. You should be able to find everything you need there at a good price. There is no point in flying around for an hour to save a thousand ISK when you could make another hundred thousand by getting back to your missions.
If you need help on what you should fit on your ship, I would recommend having a look at the links in this thread. The Rifter is a very popular ship, so there will be no shortage of advice on how to fit it. One quick point for you, don't fit a mining laser when you go into combat. When you are fighting everything on your ship should help you fight. When you are mining, everything on your ship should help you mine. Change ships and fittings to match the task at hand.

If its worlds collide, then I'd suggest you drop it if you are losing ships to the point of it being unfun. You will get a chance to do it again at as the missions repeat, but for a new player with just T1 frigates its extremely hard if not impossible to complete. Even if you could do it, the amount of time and warping in and out wouldn't be worth it and you are better off doing other missions and having fun. Once you gain more skills and can afford a bigger ship you can take on those harder missions.

Bah, Snar, you're not online. I'm getting my Merlin right now so I can help you out. Plus, I've been wanting an excuse to fly the thing for a while.
Seems like you need a confidence booster! Now I could have sworn I saw a BPC for one somewhere...

Ouchie...Burst is good for mining it suuucks for fighting. So if you want to fly that mine Condensed and Massive Scordite and sell it at the highest buyer. Check Market Info to see that. Mining can be the way to go early on, it is just easier and more doable with weak skills but it gets better later.
To really hold your own in missions though you need one of these: Rupture, Vigil, or Rifter. For these you want Auto Cannons, the Artillery will annihilate your Power Grid and CPU for frigs until you get a bit older. Missions can be tough though and the Gisti are no joke early on. A Damage Control is VERY life saving and with a gun boat you will need to move a lot. Expect to have to run away from your opponents (after burner helps here) and then dart back in when playing Minmatar. I know it does not sound the most brave but if you stand and fight you get pwned. If you string your opponents out a bit they become much easier to pick off. Also please watch out for "Destroyers" the slightly bigger ships, they will CHEW YOU APART if you ignore them. They need to be primaried amongst your targets and do not get stuck on debrise or the like because a Minmatar only stops moving to die.
I can hook you up with any of those frigs for a low fee including some ammo and guns if you want. No biggy. Just contact me in-game and I will have my Mate whip it up and then contract it to you. We live in safe space so no worries about getting it.

You can always warp out to safety before your shields go to 0. Also if you go and dock your capacitor and shields will be fully recharged. Then warp back into the mission and give it another try. You can always run recharge and go back.
Good Luck

Ya, the community is a funny mix. Find yourself at the wrong end of a warp scrambler and they will rip your precious ship apart. After your dead, if you ask politely you would probably find plenty of people who would gladly tell you want to do better next time. Start talking smack and you won't find sympathy anywhere.
Volunteers spend hours explaining the game to new players, including how to avoid the idiots who sit in front of the starting stations trying to loot-can bait newbe so that they can gank them.
You will find the best and the worst here.

Make sure to always read the bonuses your ship receives when you look up its info. This way you can avoid taking ships that are more specialized for mining or electronic warfare into PVE combat. Also keep in mind that Minmatar ships are not an easy choice to use in missions. They require training of a lot of skill simultaneously which sucks for newbies and they cannot tank as well as some other ships. If you look for example at Amarr or Caldari version of Rifter, tier 3 frigate, you'll see that those ships receive bonuses to resistances and so already have a nicer tank for missions to begin with. Minmatar ships are great for PVP combat once you reach about 10 mil sp on your character, but they suck for PVE.

The easiest way I've found to "gague" the difficulty of the mission is by the bonus availability timeframe. It can vary anywhere from a half hour up to a maximum of 6 hours. If an agent gives you a mission with a 6 hour timeframe to earn the bonus, then odds are it's one of the tougher missions.
The learning curve is steep, but it's a better ride down once you get over the hump.
I also recommend moving out of Rens and into another system, too many people can make it tough to dock/undock at times and it can get a bit more laggy than need be.
