I have read quite a lot of threads on raven tank set ups for lv4 and they all seem to lean towards an active tank. Is it possible to run a raven on a passive tank like a drake or is the in-coming DPS on lv4 missions just too much ?
Currently I am still running lv3 in a passive tanked drake appart from a few missions where I fit a t2 invul hardener just to be on the safe side.
I was hoping that I would be able to use the same sort of tank set-up on a raven to run lv4, but logic seems to tell me that fitting an active tank must be good for a reason ?
my drake set-up currently is as follows (for killing guristas npc's)
highs: limos heavy launcher x 7
mediums: Kinetic Deflection Amplifier II Kinetic Deflection Amplifier II Heat Dissipation Amplifier II Invulnerability Field II LSE II LSE II
lows: SPR II SPR II PDS II PDS II
I swap hardeners around depending on the mission I am doing. The set-up above I used to do the 10 part storyline mission called kidnapers strike. The last part had pithi usurpers and conquistadors (battleships) and I was able to tank them, only downside was it took forever to complete as the DPS output of my drake is pathetic at best :(
I was hoping to be able to use the same sort of set=up in the mids / lows for a raven, but after reading the different posts I am thoroughly confused :(

passive tanked raven is as useful as a wet paper bag. especially for lvl4s.

Edited by: QuickGonzalez on 30/10/2007 21:14:05 you need X-Large shield extenders for passive tanking BSes, which are not in the game (hopefully not yet) --- Alt: Thunder Sovereign |

Firstly it has lesser resists, secondly it has much longer shield recharge time, thirdly it has a bigger sig radius, which means, takes more damage when hit, it doesn't recharge at the same rate as a Drake, and it gets hit more often by BS.
I'm not able to check my ship right now, but from memory Drake has 20k shield with a passive recharge of over 140 and resists over 70 on all types.
Obviously the Raven has other advantages, but passive shielding is probably not one of them.
no doubt someone with quickfit will prove me wrong shortly.

Simply put, battleships lack the shield recharge rate for an effective passive shield tank. Stick this setup on.
6 (or 7 for a Navy Raven) cruise launchers XL shield booster II Shield boost amp II 3x mission-specific hardener IIs Invuln field II PDU IIs as necessary for cap Consider a DCU II for more shield resists BCS IIs to improve missile damage 3x Capacitor Control Circuits for your rigs 5x medium, 5x light drones.
This is the cookie-cutter setup. ------------------------------ One more soldier off to war... And one Velator in my hangars. |

thanks for this, after checking the ships on evemon I can see that the shield recharge rate for a BS is huge, so at least now I understand why passive tanking won't work the same way.
If you'll excuse my newbness anychance some once can tell me what DCU stands for please ?

Passive tanked Ravens just don't work. There's no way you'll be able to complete any missions in it. If you are unsure how to set up your Raven there are hundreds of setups in this thread... http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=294722 No doubt it will give you a good idea of how to set it up.
