What is the difference between a modulated strip miner II and a modulated deep core strip miner II? are they much better than the regular strip miner?
which yeilds more? do they have to have a crystal?
any information would be great :)

The Deep Core version is basically for mining Mercoxit.
The Modulated Strip Miner II is going to be better for general use. It uses all crystals except the Mercoxit one.

The MSM II is better than the plain old strip miner ONLY if you use mining crystals. If you don't, you're taking a major hit to your mining rate.

So, either
A) I scout ahead and plan what im going to mine and equip that crystal or
B) keep crystals with me and switch (am I able to switch crystals while in space? like ammo?)

Yes you can switch crystals just right click on the laser and it will give you a list of the available crystals in your cargo hold.

B, or:
C: Plan ahead on what you're mining. If you're in high sec you're prob going for rox or omber, whichever empire's space you're in. Low sec, whatever's the best available there. 0.0, bistot or arkonor. 99.999...% of the time you pretty much know what you're going out there for before you even undock. |

You also need skills to use crystals. Veldspar Processing for Veldspar Crystals, Scordite Processing for Scordite Crystals, etc. Level III for T1 crystals, Level IV for T2 crystals. The lower-end processing skills aren't too bad, but the higher on the ore chain you go, the greater the prerequisites for the skills.
I'm in a Hulk and still using Strip Miner I's because I don't have the skills for all the crystals yet, and am busy training other things.
