Why does a battleship with a mass of 107,500,000 kg get stuck on an unanchored can with a mass of 10,000 kg?

Edited by: rewozz on 28/02/2004 20:27:55 Because CCP people got F at physics ;] Same stuff with afterburners, why does the ship stop after the afterburners are turned off, I mean the ship shouldn't slow down for a very long period.

Not again... So 1 click with an MWD should give ships top speed for hours?

Edited by: rewozz on 29/02/2004 01:38:48 Yeah, that's how "normal" space laws would suggest. To slow down you would need to use the afterburnes again but reversed.

Who said 'normal' space laws were in Eve? If they were here, turning would be more 'realistic'.
ie. you'd change orientation, but the ship would still want to travel where it was going, so your 'curve' onto the new direction. It ain't over till the fat lady falls on ya!

Edited by: rewozz on 29/02/2004 15:41:36 Ships would use small thrusters like the ones on todays spaceshuttles and turn with the help of them. If you've seen apollo 13 you know what I mean, I also think it would look neat having small thrusters fire off on your ship in the opposite direction you are turning.

As you know, the EVE gate transported the ships that went through it not to another part of the universe... but a PARRALEL UNIVERSE. Different laws may apply

My thoughts on the matter of physics in the realm of EVE.

I've stopped complaining about it since it is not just players that get hung up on stuff but the npc rats do as well. Ok, it is a disadvantage to me, and i learned the hard way to look out for it, but it is fun when you get spawn hung up on the other side of a big roid, or trapped in a cloud of cans. --------------------------------------------- Engineers motto; If it doesn't fit, force it. If it breaks it needed replacing anyway. |

There are things I get more anoyed with and things I dont get anoyed with.
Things like cargo expanders slowing you down, ship slowing down if the engines are stopped, ship not moving if you turn on a MWD is stationary and so on bothers me not, sure its illogical by our understanding of physics but who said eve engines work like we today would build them.
After all we cant build ships today that can even fly to the moon do a few circles, stop for the view go back a few km's and then head back to earth on the same path as we went there. We simply cant do that.
In short, EvE has more advanced physics and propulsion than any of us can understand and this technology has its own laws giving drawbacks.
What I however can not accept is the fact that ones ship gets stuck on astroids without it telling you, I would love to have a proximity warning.
I can not accept that if you leave a station you have to manually fly your ship clear of the station to be able to warp to gates and objects that are blocked of the station or your ship will try fly straight through the station... wierdest thing of that is that it is possible to go through the station even though you may need a MWD to pierce the hulls.
I can not accept that my ship makes a jump upwards when I leave a station and hit AB/MWD's to get clear of the station faster (mainly a problem with certain minmatar stations) making my ship get stuck in the angle I am traveling.
I would in short love to see the onboard computer take over and fly you as close as possible to any proximity problems and thus fly round the station to find a spot to align with the target for a warp.
I however am well aware of the fact that this is not a major problem and thus is not a high priority and thus CCP will get to it in due time, its just too bad they are only a company of 30 people, I would have loved if they were a company of 300 programmers but we have to deal with what we have and thus far its a good enough game to pay for :)
Keep up the good work CCP

Edited by: rewozz on 01/03/2004 11:44:54 Yeah, no doubt, still the engines you talk about are pretty simple in theory. It's a regular thruster like on the ones on todays space shuttles, and they should behave like them. The shuttle can fly around in space like we do in EVE, but it's not that nimble and agile like the ships we drive, it would take much planning and precision to do what you said with the shuttle.
