Edited by: achoura on 02/11/2007 11:15:04 Cos every time we reinstall the sodding thing we all have to use the rest buttons on our pcs .*
Seriously , the ability to choose which screen to use would be nice, not essential but nice all the same
*it may simply be a bug currently, but when install the new client my firewall (tried both norton and agvs) block it by default. Unfortunately they can't minimize the client while it's trying to start so i just end up staring at a black screen and having to reset. Starting in window lets the firewalls minimize so i can allow it which i find odd, because it's stating in fullscreen when i tell it to run windowed

I like it ok. I'd also like to be able to log out and log into my other account without quitting the whole program too.

The rest button on my pc to remove the black screen. the firewall is unable to minimize the client while it's trying to start for the first time, hence a black screen and hardware reset to get it going.
It is a nice screen when it works

Edited by: Kerdrak on 02/11/2007 11:21:24 I'm not sure, but I have some affection to the tiny login screen. It's nothing important at all, but I prefer the old.
In windowed mode (as I play) seems ugly because the window is behind the toolbar. ________________________________________

I like the current login screen, and can't seen any reason for it to be fullscreen.

Are you using a firewall with program control, such as ZoneAlarm? Have you tried pressing Alt+Enter to switch to windowed mode when your firewall pops up the access warning?

Usually norton, tried with agv too both with ccp blue framework to permit all. However when a program is changed (patched) they launch a pop up to make sure and this is what doesn't happen, or breaks.
E.g copy sisi and apply the test patch, alter the target accordingly. Double click on the new shortcut, screen turns black while it loads but it stays black. Firewall blocks the client by default, the problem is the client gets stuck in a loop (i think) and won't let me alt tab/alt enter to hit allow. PC just freezes.

Sorry for off-topic, but I would like to ask a question:
Why is that this thread has been answered in 1 minute, while there are a lot more important topic open for other players without answer?
Amarr ships? Huh? Theres a 62 pages long petition from the players are paying "to be able to pay" for the game you develope.
The only answer I saw so long about the Carrier nerf from you is "Carrier != Hauler", however everyone else know that 'Carry'-ing something is 'Haul'-ing something and asking from an answer.
Full screen login screen? Oh my god. ---------------------------------

This thread is not about what a firewall does and does not, but about the change to the login screen. It's pure cosmetic and I have to agree with some other posters that it's not nesessary. I like the old one better. Makes starting up EVE look sleek and fancy. Not like many other games (think that's 1 reason why EVE is EVE... to be different).
Also a "Logout" button is a good idea to be able to switch characters more quickly.
If you Dev's can't see the point to this, then look at it as unnesessary workload on your part... think you guys have a lot of other things to work out, that "nerfing" the login screen ;)

I have to agree with the OP on this one, in a big way.
I copy my entire active eve directory, and all of its settings, yet when I log into Sisi all of my character logins are gone, and my settings are blown to heck. Not only my graphics settings, but I am forced to slog through the EULA (worthless piece of crap that CCP doesn't enfoce against the most glaring violators), and wait for the intro to load so I can esc past it. Then I log in... and all of my overview settings are gone (I *HATE* having to reset the damn overview all the f*ing time), my browser bookmarks are gone, and pretty much everything I had set the way I wanted on my TQ directory has been wiped out and I have to slog through resetting them instead of testing out the new (crappy) content.

What about Ctrl+Alt+Delete and open the Task Manager. Does that work and can you see what the CPU usage of eve.exe and exefile.exe is? I've sent this to QA for investigation.
An off-topic reply: Software is my responsibility and therefore the login screen and interaction with other software is my concern. I was reading the forums and happened to see this thread when it was posted. In the software code all the ships are the same. But I'm sure the Content people are aware of discussion on the differently authored instances of types of ships.

Nope nothing works , don't see any way to get log files of it either since thats integrated in the client.
I should state i am not trying to hijack or derail a thread, i am simply stating (and expanding when asked) my main reason for proffering the original log in screen.
Although it may be old, i've grown fond of it over these past few years while watching all the other games "grow up". While it may not be as modern as some it is however unique and that really is why most of us play eve, because it is different. also i don't have any problems with it .

Hmmm, its not full screen. It takes up slightly more space than before but not much, at least on my screen. Maybe I'm running higher res, dunno.
Anyway I like it although it did take some getting used to the minimalistic styling. You can lose the whole "trinity" screen for me though, its just a time waster to getting into the game

OK so there's 1 guy who seem to have a problem with loggin on to the TEST SERVER!!!! and all CCP does is reply on that instance COMPLETELY ignoring the rest...
I'd rather have a constructive reply on the login screen than on someones f*cked up installation. (no heart feelings though)
It would be REALLY nice for the guys from CCP to put an end to all this speculation about WTF they are really doing to the game and just putting down in a DevBlog or so what is REALLY going to change, what their motivations are behind it and when these changes are to take place.

Why make it fullscreen in the first place? Was there a specific reason?
I sometimes have two accounts open in windowed mode. While opening the second client (which takes 30-60s on my PC) I carry on with my currently open client. With the startup at fullscreen it means I have to alt-tab... right, it's not the end of the world but an extra, unecessary step.
Sp, why can't it be made windowed?
------------------ If you see me post it's because either: 1) Silly forums made me do it 2) Because I was too lazy to change characters 3) Because I wanted to 4) <insert mod comment here> |

I don't really care either way on whether it is fullscreen or not, however I do want the exit button (x at top right) back again. It is a pain to have to hit the settings button (esc key doesn't do it from the login screen) and chose quit game. ______

Back to topic:
Perhaps use the "minimize/maximize/close" options you get in the top right of a normal window would please both parties. That way you can have a smaller window or you can choose to maximize it.

In Revelations 2.3 next week we are releasing Mac OS X and Linux clients. We had problems with the windowed login screen on those platforms and decided simply to make the login screen full screen on all platforms. We also had to make changes to support accessing settings on the login screen for the Trinity expansion and needed more space to display them.

On the login screen you can click Settings, select windowed mode and click Apply. This choice will be remembered on the next startup.

Both changes will be on SiSi, hopefully before the weekend. There is an X in fullscreen and ESC works from the login screen.

Actually... http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=627522&page=1#23
So the only thing changing is the login-screen of the client after a new installation, it can be changed back to windowed mode.
Ps: If you actually insist, there are 3rd party tools to run ANY dx application windowed.
