I used to play WoW and remember the enormous fuss in the weeks before the Burning Crusade expansion. Even a cursory reading of the forums gave the impression that the entire player community was up in arms over all the changes. Oh yes, the sky was falling and seas were as blood. That's how bad it sounded. And then... nothing happened. When the expansion finally hit the shelf, a few people did actually quit, but in reality WoW's playerbase only expanded.
Why? Because when Burning Crusade actually came out, players realized the rationale behind Blizzard's gameplay changes. There was no secret conspiracy to nerf mages into oblivion or deny cat form druids a real finishing move. Blizzard simply balanced the game in order to further the playing experience. The game didn't become the next SWG, despite numerous and repeated calls that it was destined to a cold and slow death. The sensationalist cries of WoW Armageddon ultimately amounted to nothing, and the game continued on with just as much success as before.
Shift gears to EVE Online. With so many people screaming about the impending nerfbat of doom and threatening to cancel their multiple accounts, does anybody else think that these shrieks of woe are a bit premature? I mean, really. The patch isn't even released yet. The expansion isn't even released yet. Why not play the game with the new changes and then make a decision? Wouldn't that be the rational thing to do?
Please, all I'm asking for is just a bit of sanity before people start jumping out of seventh-floor windows!

Only problem is, here the players actually do get a chance to try the new stuff out. It's called sisi, the test server. They play the game, albeit without actual consequences.

I quit WoW and started playing Eve full time when that expansion was released. They made all my hard earned Naxx raid loot and almost 2 years of raiding nearly every single day for 8 hours a night a waste of time.
I can see how a long time player who flys a Mothership or Titan, or possibly even a Carrier could feel the same about nerfs to their ship class especially since CCP does not refund skill points and allow for a free "Respec" when they change something.
That said, I am not a capital ship pilot, and am relatively new in the whole scheme of Eve and am happy to see capital ship online being nerfed.

You mean... wait until the WHOLE set of changes come out, and keep silent while things gradually unveil ? And defer judgement until after everything is in place ? This is UNPOSSIBLE ! _

OP, you have read my mind. Last night I changed my sig to what it currently says because of all the whiners complaining about changes (nerfs) without actually seeing the whole picture together. ____________________

Yeah, they'll be some changes and stuff but ultimately everyone just has to suck it up and get on with it.
