I was thinking "marines" would be an interestting feature that could be manufactures somehow or trained... these people on your ship could help the capturing of a facility... Like when you take down the shields of a space station or possible a future structure instead of just docking you could unload various soldiers, marines and combat personal that could try and take the station or maybe just raid and capture items and equip and well as damaging facilities like the factories... the defenders could try the same with their own defending personel and this could be balanced by upkeep bills per solider so that more powerful troops and weapons would cost more per week. If planettary ownership and warfare comes about this could also open up new ideas....this makes more sense the act of capturing stations and bases... and opens up new careers and military trainers and equipment dealers... vast trade could be needed to supply weapons and the materials needed by these troops to keep them at max effectiveness as hopefully if implimented they would be highly customizable for their job...raiding or capturing.
The battle would be displayed to the invading corporations in a series of updates by text. "We are entering the main hanger" etc... it would be just math based and would only take 5-10 minutes... it really wouldnt be very hard to implement.
I think perhaps pilotable fighters and bombers someday would be wonderful...
perhaps making these player controllable in an expansion :D ...

Aren't marines sold as trade goods?, think they come under passengers or some such. Would be good if a trade good had a purpose, or maybe you could train homeless into marines :D....I dunno, something
I think it would be preety cool if when taking over stations it went into and FPS, that would be soooo cool.

My other idea is to implement fighter and bomber sized ships... maybe even make them flight sim based controls on a at least basically simple template.... cheap and affordable with maybe even a automatic escape pod that isnt fulproof but safe enough to keep a pilot safe much of the time...
Also a fighter/bomber would be FUN... shoot to disable individual systems... shoot to take out a battleship... target the engines etc.... introduce a WHOLE new level of fleet combat...
to counter point defenses against fighters could be added to bigger ships...

They have those. They're called frigates and battleships. ;)

I like the idea, but would probably be a lot of re-engineering for CCP to add that sort of combat. -- Jump Drive Operation / Rank 5 / SP: 1280000 of 1280000

if u want joystick type controls, forget it, small extremely fast new ships would be a great idea tough, kinda like interceptors but smaller and more extreme in their differences, also the whole marines idea could be very easily done, hard to balance, bah i dunno im not with CCP :D God i gotta change my sig..

Having the marines idea would work. The defender needs to station marines in a station if they want a chance to defend it.
If another player wants to take control they need to punch through the shields and get marines of their own on board.
Once the attacker docks they begin unloading marines into their hanger. Every half hour or maybe every 10mins a battle calc is run that takes into account the number of marines on the defenders side and the number of marines in the hanger floor from the attacking corp and works out casulties based on new marine combat based skills, the type of marines being used and a random factor or two. This calc will continue to run until all the marines on one side are all gone at which point a winner is declared and the station is either taken or defended.
During the battle shps from both sides can try and dock to unload more marines (i.e. re-enforcements) to sway the tide of the battle. It also allows a corp to defend its station even if all its pilots are not sitting outside it at the time the other corp attacked.
It also opens up options for new types of skills and roles as well as varying types of marin assets that can be used (maybe have marines of different races and skill levels that you can use based on your faction standings).
I have the body of a supermodel. I just can't remember where I left it... |
