I was on the closed beta test. This new testing client does the same thing that gimped me on the closed test. On my main box, I'm a cedega+EVE user. If I install the beta, it over writes the existing cedega installation (no choices to move it) and completely borks both the testing and the main client.
As a CEO of an active corporation in game, I don't have the time to "back n' forth" this box for testing.
(main machine x2 3800 dual core/ nvidia 7950GT 512 meg ram /2 gig corsair ram / 300 gig sata / onboard sound / ubuntu 7.04
On the secondary testing machine it installs fine, but logo freezes and then ctd's with no apparent errors other than the python issue which isn't really the 'crash'.
The 2nd box is an older cpu/gfx, but IS using an external USB sound solution (creative sb live external), and THIS is what causes the problems as the config tests fail on sound no matter which solution (alsa or oss) is selected. Copying prefs.ini from a working installation and zero'ing out the audio does not resolve the problem.
The sblive DOES work with other applications with no issue.
The temporary testing on the primary machine yielded lower fps results than current cedega 6.03 engine + EVE tranquility client, and also lower FPS results than an existing wine .9.48 + EVE tranquility client. This may be due to overhead, or less than optimal defaults to the gddb settings for the EVE client, but this isn't ready for prime time imho.

Go to the eve configuration choice that is placed in the menu. Run ALL of the tests. My bet is you have alsa/oss fail. If ANY of those tests fail, you will have problems with EVE running.

I pass all the tests, still splash & crash.
For me too!
The funny thing is that I already have a working cedega version (with the "old" windows binaries). I can start eve with this installation but I can't with the new client 
The thing about this install that hacked me off a bit is that it installs INTO the old cedega install...and then will fail to run as its trying to use the old client. I had to move my dot cedega folder to a backup location, remove (entirely) the cedega install and THEN install the new eve client.
If you have an existing cedega install, it will mess it up.
This client needs to be installed where the USER wants in order not to gimp up existing stuff. For instance, I use cedega for OTHER games, and having this eve specific install overwrite the base cedega install is completely not kosher. This needs to get resolved asap, imho.

You got the packaged client going then?
After uninstalling the current cedega (backing up the .cedega folder) and then doing a clean install of the eve linux client, yes.
Success on the x2 3800 amd dual core box.
The xp2400 + fx5200 + sblive usb external sound = splash/n/crash.
When this goes live I will probably move to it on the main machines, but there are some gotchas with older hardware and definitely a show stopper with alsa/oss + usb external sound solutions.
I'm also showing the eve linux package is lower fps-wise than cedega 6.03 or wine .9.48 but this may be just a bit of tweaking with the eve config panel for gfx settings.

We've had that glitch for ages under regular cedega. it seems that the more memory constrained you are, the more likely that gfx glitch shows up. It doesn't affect fitting, but is a little bit pita making sure you drop modules in the right spots.
