Is this true that for the rest of my life pirating in a frigate this will be the best frigate a minmatar can get?

Yes Rifter is the best T1 frigate. There are also T2 frigates in which you can pirate, as well as faction frigs like Daredevil and Dramiel.

The rifter is nothing to sneeze at IMO. Many people agree with me and would argue that the rifter is the best T1 frigate out there.
For A step up, have a look at the wolf, the t2 assault version of the rifter. Hoever for random frig priacy it is often better to keep the cost down by flying t1. -=^=-

The Breacher is also a good one if you want to assail at range with missiles but yeah the Rifter rocks or its cousin the Assault Frigat Wolf. +++++++++++++++ I saw the Sign...!

The breacher is ****. The rifter is the only minmatar frigate worth using tbh.

Both minmatar T2 assault ships are based on the Riften, and many people on other factions cross train minmatar frigate just to fly rifters. It's easily the best low budget PvP vessel in the game. |

The Rifter is the best tech-1 frigate anyone can get. I'm a Caldari who trained Gallente ships, and even I choose to fly a Rifter when I have to use a tech-1 frigate.
However, tech-1 frigates aren't the only frigates available. Consider traing for Assault Ships or Interceptors. Besides, you might want to consider even larger ships, such as Destroyers or Cruisers. ---

Tech 2 ships have specialized names indicating their roles. For frigate, there are 3 tech 2 variant classes available: Assault (combat gunboat), Interceptor (high speed tackler) and Covert ops (stealthy). The tech 2 variants of the Rifter, the Rifter being a gunboat, are Assault frigates. To fly them, you therefore need to learn the Assault ships skill, along with any prerequisites it may have. You will almost certainly also need to train up your equipment and fitting skills to properly fly and fit it.

Once again thank you very much :) I will get on the case :) - So training the frigate rank thing for nearly 24 hours was a bit of a waste :(

Definetely not a waste. Like with some other role specific ships, and many T2 ships, being able to fly the ship does not just rely on the actual T2 skill, but also a high level (4 or 5) of the corresponding racial skill for the base class of that ship (so to fly a Stilletto, a minmatar interceptor, you'll need skills in both Interceptors as well as Minmatar frigate). This is also factored in into the ship skill bonusses for that ship, which often have a category for the base class ship as well as for the general ship class skill (so a command ship could in theory have a bonus dependent on racial cruiser, Battlecruiser and command ships).
So you were going to need frigate to level 4 or 5 anyway, no time wasted.

You'll need Frigates to lvl 5 to get a T2 Frig. And that is just a base. You'll also need Mechanic and Engineering to lvl 5 for an AF Electronics and Electronic Upgrades to lvl 5 for a Stealth Bomber/Cov Ops Navigation and Evasive Maneuvering to lvl 5 for an Interceptor
Now with these skills done, you can learn the actual ship skill. *just like how you need frig lvl 3 to train cruisers*
BUT...
To make actual use of the ship, or to keep it from becoming salvage very quickly, you'll need to train support skills. these are your weapon, tank, misc module skills. Cloaking for Cov Ops, T2 Weapons for AF, T2 MWD for Interceptor, as examples.
It sounds like a ton, and that it will take forever. But trust me, the time will fly by, and most people will tell you that it is very worth it. I myself enjoy flying AF's, and now Interceptors on this character, and I can fly Stealth Bombers on another.
Hope that helps at all.

now here is the catch, in eve, if you decide you want to fly say, a wolf, (or much better IMO a jag) then if you train for 3 months you'll be as good if not better than a 4 year old player with that same ship. because you can max out skills :) Official fanboy of jenny< pink supporter! looking to work in the art department with CCP, 3 years and counting. http://www.digipen.edu/main/Gallery_Games_2004#Narbacular_Dropthi |

I love my Rifter. In the spirit of duct tape and blu tac I only fitted it out with looted and left over modules, and it still does everything I ask of it.
Glad to see it is a rated ship here, look forward to seeing what it can do with some decent gear and skills aboard.
