Hi. the other day i was minding my own business when a war target decided he was going to take a likening to me and pop us into next week and back, he warp scrambled me then target disrupted me i was 15km away from him and couldn't even lock onto him i had 2 warp core stabs on in my low slots but still couldnt warp away, so in the end of the day i was a sitting duck.
so my question is i know im not going to be able to kill him as hes a 2 year char and im a 4 month char with just a little over 2.6 mil s/p. so how do i escape this situation so i have a chance to escape?
thx in advance Dazz

You have to try and run out of his warp scrambling range before he kills you. If you're faster than him and if he doesn't have you webed, you can do it by double clicking and heading directly to the opposite direction from him and then hitting your afterburner or mwd. If he's faster and got you webed, the only thing you can do is fight back and call for help. Typically people fit warp disruptors that have either 20 or 24 km range, depending on whether this is a T1 or T2 version. Less popular choice are warp scramblers that have about 7.5 km range, but put two points on you (disruptors put 1 point). So depending on what he's using, you'll have to cover range of 7-24 km until you'll be able to warp away.
For a character that old I would not be surprised if he would also be using a faction warp disruptor or scrambler. These have greater range - typically people fit Domination ones (these are best affordable ones) that have 11 km range for scramblers or 30 km range for disruptors. If he was also flying a Lachesis or Arazu (gallente recon ship) that ship receives a bonus to warp disruptor range and can pretty much scramble you anywhere within 40 to 70 km, depending on whether he's using T2 or faction disruptors. It is a very nasty ship to deal with. You can attempt to run through this range but most likely you'll be stuck there having to fight him.
The warp core stabs decrease your maximum locking range. It is possible that you were not able to lock him because he was outside your locking range because you were wearing warp core stabs. He was clearly putting more than 2 points on your so your 2 warp core stabs failed to save you. It is also possible that he was using one of those Gallente recons in which case he'd put sensor dampeners on you. Damps work to decrease target's maximum locking range so once again you would not be able to lock anything. You can damp a sensor boosting battleship to less than 10 km locking range with some stacked damps.
So the answer to your question on what to do in this situation would be: 1. Don't get into this situation. Watch local for war targets and don't let them catch you because otherwise you'll get bbq'ed. 2. Fly fast ships that are able to zip through the warp scrambling range and escape then your opponents will be the one who will feel frustrated being unable to catch you. 3. Wear more warp core stabs. 4. Try to fly in gang with other people from your corp/alliance for better protection.

Since it was a war target, i'd like to emphasize that if 4 isn't an option, you joined the corp of an incompetent CEO. Any CEO worth his salt has prepared to ward off oppurtunist war decs and would advise his people of how to respond to motivated war decs.

Sounds like you got attacked by a Gallente recon (lots of points and then dampened). can you tell us what shiptype was on the killmail?
Also, you did things wrong a bit. 'minding your own business' while there's a war target in system don't mix very well. I'm betting on the fact that you were attacked by an Arazu so you didn't see him coming.
If you weren't attacked bya cloaker then you really need to learn the following;
- watching local - using the scanner every few seconds - being aligned to warp out when you see a WT - not flying around solo

from what i can remember he was in a Gallente Class Combat Recon Ship 20% bonus to warp disrupter range. i know i should off been a bit more careful to make sure he wasn't online but must off missed him when he logged on! and i wasn't anywhere near my home system so how does he know where i am i was 10 jumps away? i know having my warp core stabs had reduced my target range by a lot which probably didn't help me but how many do i have to stick on to stand a chance of warping my s$$ out. is there anyway of blinding him to put him in a stale mate so he cant get a lock on me? if so what and what skills would be recommended and to what lvl?
Cheers

All you need to do is WATCH LOCAL, if there's a threat in local you can bet your quafe he'll be coming for you. Don't sit around waiting till he attacks you. Get out earlier.

One question never answered, what does one use to counter jamming so that you can lock target?
In other words, if you want to fight it out, you need to be able to lock target. So if you are not worried about warping, but have the jamming issue, what does one do?
Thanks in advance for the help.

A quick simple answer... a stronger scanner.. I know there are modules that provide this benefit and I think some ships provide it as well. Someone more experienced can probably give you exact details.

Edited by: Cygnus Zhada on 05/11/2007 16:03:38 Depends on the jamming type. If they use ECM you could fit an ECCM module, but it's no sure bet (as ECM it's a sure bet either). Dampeners are countered by sensor booster or just getting in close.
Thing is ofcourse that you can't fit for something like that because you don't know if you're getting attacked in the first place, and if that attacker has ECM or damps or nothing.
Mostly attackers using damps will be fast and agile ships attacking you from 10-24km (or more in case of a gallente recon). You can't really counter it, so you shouldn't even try. I'd say the only counter would be to bring friends.
