There is no point of changing it, to make it more secure, because shares dont mean anything unless the person selling them is trustworthy.
Except for secondry market transactions, I suppose.
But for an IPO (ie you are buying them from the corp to whome they belong) there is no benefit to having a secure trading method, as if they are going to scam you, either they can do it by not sending the shares, or they can fail to ever pay any dividends on them, once they are distributed (due to having done a runner with the cash, for example).

No, not really.
There needs to be a more efficient way to approve purchase for shares, offer them publicly, dissolve them, split them, or trade them between external parties.
This is a free cluster, so there is no need for security or economic protection beyond what participants themselves can pursue. If you stray beyond your own means to make amends, then it's your own fault. If you dabble in trust outside the good old boys club, that is also your own prerogative. Otherwise, it is impossible for people to make or break their own reputations. The only fools are those who put improper valuation on reputation.

ok, so let's take away the market and contracts as well; no point in having any secure transactions ingame. solid liquid |

In fact, enforceable contracts are a requirement for a healthy market.

Edited by: John Monaghan on 05/11/2007 03:34:48 It's true that private property cannot exist without a civil state within which a monopoly on the use of coercion and violence has been vested.
However, that just wouldn't be any fun in a pvp game.
An isk has no intrinsic value unless you believe that it does. It is not a little slip of an IOU from the public at large unless you have due cause to believe in you fellow player.
Without caprice, the market wouldn't be worth the thought expended upon it. Can you think of anyone that ever got ripped off that didn't deserve it?
If you're on the other side of the coin, and the difficulty of establishing credibility in a public IPO market is too great, perhaps it would be more lucrative and less politically confining to explore private investment amongst your confederates.

Patently false. An isk has many intrinsic values. 0.2777777... trit per isk, for instance (due to shuttle reprocessing). Or a fraction of a BPO.
I'm happy for you for having just completed Economics 101. Come back when you've at least bought the book for your Sophomore-year class.
