I can reproduce this problem, I just installed EVE onto my laptop and I can login but almost as soon as the ship is displayed and at the latest when I try to bring up the map to set my destination I get this error:
Microsoft Visual C++ runtime library
Runtime Error!
Program: C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE\eve.exe
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way. Please contact...
Any ideas?

can anyone say if there's a way to generate an errorlog or something to have something for the devs to look at?

I can't say for sure what caused Ke'sha's error, since I think this error doesn't usually occur on the Ati Radeons, but in Failed's case it's most likely the graphic chip in her laptop. The runtime error usually occurs when you try to run EVE on a computer whose graphic capabilities are insufficient for the game.
Failed, check what graphics card or chip you have. If it's the Intel 82x series or the TNT1|2, you're up the creek without a paddle. Check the list of supported and unsupported cards for more info.

Just to clarify things a bit..
-This error occured with Radeon 7200/7500 for sure (don't know what you want it to be called though since it's Radeon 64 VIVO and ATI decided to rename it :).
-My MIRC nor any of the other progs (peer-to-peer) didn't loose the connection during the error.
PS. I just bought Radeon 9800 pro and it kicks ass, though I'm still missing some player portrait graphs in the game.

ok, i see where my problem lies.. damn shame tho, would be nice to run some peaceful cargo runs and mining ops on my laptop while in bed watching a movie or smth :)
how bout putting a check in the beginning of the game, perhaps while installing that checks that the computer being installed meets minimum requirements?
this would eliminate any "hopeless cases" like mine, and I wouldn't have spent 2 hours trying to get it to work.
