So today I sat inside my station getting bored staring at my fitting window, I was like hmm lets setup a POS!
So we went to Jita to buy all the necessary equipment, of course after getting everything it took a while to get out of Jita again but IÆm used to that by now. Everything still good, the POS equipment was on route to the system we were going to put the POS in.
Ok, the stuff has arrived letÆs put up our POS! I warped to the chosen moon, and launched the POS. Now we had to anchor it, right click and anchor and wow, a shiny green box with silver arrows appeared, I had never seen that before I didnÆt even know it existed, nice feature I thought. After spending roughly a minute or two deciding the exact position of the POS I right clicked the green box and pressed anchor again, that should to the trick I thought but no, instead of anchoring in the position where I told it to the POS suddenly warped 140km away from me and started anchoring there. A well no big deal ill just try and cancel it but as you may have guessed that didnÆt work. Ok there were only 7 minutes left at the anchoring timer so weÆll just wait for that. 7 minutes later the POS was anchored (in the wrong position) so I started unanchoring it, 50 minutes wait to unanchor it bit long but IÆll just watch a movie or something while waiting, again 50 minutes later the POS was unanchored ready to get anchored again and this time hopefully in the right position. Ok, here we go again, right click the POS andà anchor then a message appeared saying my corporation can only anchor 1 POS in this system per day.
So that was my first POS experience, it didnÆt go very well and IÆm slightly annoyed by the fact I just wasted my day trying to setup a POS that is still in my hanger.

Yeah that placement box on the POS is an epic fail. It doesnt like you setting it up on a warp in point. ________ "It's a good day to die!" Leave my sig alone ffs! |

Why do you want to setup a POS in the first place? They are designed to be giant logistical hassle. Anchoring and unanchoring timers are there to make setting up a POS a potentially dangerous activity, as you might get surprised by enemies when the POS is not fully operational. POS anchoring restrictions shall probably curb POS spam tactics.
Just wait when you have to fuel it.

Green box doesn't work on the tower anymore, a few patches ago they made it so a tower automaticly anchors on the center of the grid

well that's dumb.. if the green box does nothing, it should be replaced with klaxons, hugely bright spotlights that light up nearby ships/moons/solar systems and generally make it appear like something important is happening.
I'm serious... if it's not going to do anything, it might as well do 'nothing' extravagantly. __________________________________________________

Is this just that system or is all systems have this limitation?
I was under impression that you could place as many as you wanted/have time for.. If this isn't the case then what is POS spamming and how can you possibly lose whe n a corp can only put 1/day?

they recently prevented pos spamming... in 0.0 you are restricted to 5 pos's per day per system per corp... guess in low sec, just 1 per system per day per corp...
the placement for the tower is screwed up, but is it really such of a big deal? just anchor it at a random position. and bookmark it. i do it all the time =)
the modules however don't have this bug. you can be very precise where you want to place them, just make sure your ship isn't moving while you try to do that, because the box will also move then...

Yeah, this is because, typically, someone discovered that if you anchor your POS close the the edge of a grid you can have logistics ships sitting off grid repping the shields while someone is trying to kill it and they aren't visible to the attackers.

Setting up a POS properly takes hours, during which time you can literally do nothing else, and is by far the least rewarding and most tedious activity in the entire game -- something that CCP badly needs to work on. Never, ever think about setting up a POS for the fun of it. *snip* sig removed due to it containing nothing relating to eve or the character - hutch |

Earlier today i tried again and this time with more success
It took a bit of waiting to anchor and online everything but now my POS is up and running and the first moon materials are already waiting in one of the silo's
Good stuff, dont have a clue what to do with the moon materials though

anchoring and unanchoring a POS is a great activity to do while you would otherwise not be playing, like while watching TV... unless you are in a hostile system. in that case you can enjoy watching local for 2 hours
you can make compounds out the moon minerals, but unless you have a vast network harvesting many moons, you will not be able to make T2 components from scratch. so yeah, you just sell the stuff. there are detailed guides on it, somewhere around these forums.
~~~~ ~~~~ ~~~~ Take away the risk and it would make flying around in space utterly pointless.
Take away the flying around part and you make EVE into a space themed spreadsheet application. |
Note, I'm assuming you are in low sec.
Right, forget mining that stuff unless you managed to find a moon with nice metals. It's practically worthless, you can buy it for less than it costs to mine it, possibly this has something to do with POS spamming for sovereignty but I'm not sure.
Now, get yourself a medium gallente tower (doubles the silo capacity), 3 silos, the smaller reactor, a reaction blueprint thing-a-majig, a corporate hangar, a bunch of fuel, the requisite moon materials for the reaction and some guns/webber/scrambler if you are feeling paranoid.
Set it all up and convert the bought moon materials and fuels into an intermediate material. Pick the right reaction and you can make a reasonable profit.
Then move onto producing advanced materials and profit even more
Seriously no one should put up a POS unless there is a real need for it. I cannot see someone being that BORED to want to set one up unless they have never done so before. YOu will never catch someone that has run a pos putting one up because of boredom.
Those things are a serious pain to set up and operate. I ran one for 9months for research,mining and ratting purposes and still I questioned if it was worth it. If you think worrying about skills finishing at bad times is bad, having 300mil worth of gear that could be popped without firing a shot back is worse,if you don't get the fuel in on time.
