Is there any "afk" kind of things my character can do while I'm gone from the game for the day that can make me a steady income of isk of variety amounts?
Since I'm a mission runner while I'm on EVE, I would like to put my character to use while I'm off the computer.
Any ideas?

Absolutely.
Build things or take some loot you get from missions and put up a Sell Order on the market. It can be filled anytime whether you are logged in or not.
Likewise construction of items continues whether you are online or not. Won't make you money till you log in and put it on the market but you can build stuff while you sleep and put it up when you get a chance.

anything anyone tells you will swiftly be used by every one and their pets and thus either ruined or exploited then nerfed by ccp.

I've never actually done it before but you could manufacture stuff while your gone, place sell orders on the market. I THINK R&D agents give RP points over time so you can collect those while your gone...

Buy shares and get dividends. Get about 7% a month or so depending on who you invest with, which aint *that* much but its still some.
Gotta bear in mind the inherant risk with that aswell.

Can always sic your hauler with a single mining laser on the biggest asteroid you can find, and come back to the computer to find an asteroid's worth of ore waiting in your cargo when you return. ------------------------------ One more soldier off to war... And one Velator in my hangars. |

An easy way to make some isk while not doing anything at all is to use research agents. They generate a certain number of research points a day and you can trade those in later for datacores. Datacores are used for invention so depending on where you are or what patch notes has just been published (market speculation ftw) certain Datacores will be arbitarliy (it seems) worth more per core then others. The requirements to get a decent ammount of cores takes a good deal of skill training however. Thats the closest I got to "free" money. ----- *results may vary*

This idea of making isk, should be your last ditch effort, afk hauler mining is not a good way to make isk. People don't like it and some will even take great pleasure if blowing you up, even if they get concorded afterwards.
best of grinding down the mission crap and putting the minerals up for sale at market friendly price. Keep in mind this isn't your primary way of making money so putting them on at a little under what the next guy is selling for will get your minerals sold.

Ah yeah, some of those suggestions I've already put to use such as selling my mission going loots. I'm also not the kind of guy to scam people (damn my bluntly honest genes that runs in my family).
Thanks for the feedbacks, ya'all. I'll figure out something I can turn into an afk type profit making method.

It's insanely difficult to make any real profit from T1 production in Hi-sec, even with maxxed out skills. The time it takes you to gather the minerals, etc generally makes it not worth doing.
I do hate having to grind missions for ISK, though, but it's generally the easiest way to make lots in a short space of time. I usually just get overbored within an hour and do something else
Invention and POS' is where it's at, i'd say. A decent moon could net you a good 100mil a month, though actually finding one that hasn't already been claimed is another matter entirely. -----

If you find a good trade route you can dump your isk into items to sell on market while your away. With a lil market research you should make a tidy lil profit while your away, if you find the right items to sell in the right region.I make daily trade runs to several regions and I'm always eager to see what kinda profit i've made when i've been away for a day or two.

Investing in player-created IPO's is worth looking into if you want to make your isk work for you; way more entertaining and dynamic than NPC agents too

well I wouldn't say r&d is free money ..
1. you have to learn lots of skills to gain anything worthwhile and to run multiple agents 2. you have to gain standings. this is very hard for most profitable agents. some of the greatest r&d corps only have very low quality agents in low sec systems... good luck mission running there 3. when you have got the standings, you're not done as you have to regularly collect and haul your datacores to jita in order to sell them. don't forget suicide bombers who will scan you and want you DCs so you'll want to manually warp (cloaking at each system) on the Pilgrim (which has the largest cargo between recons).

True, but even 1 ISK is infinitely better than 0.

i tend to make more money while not playing then while playing, i post stuff i've made or got from loot on the market either matching or under cutting jita by up to 10%, some folks will travel a couple hops to either save money or just to avoid jita at peaks times, hehe

Its very possible to make money while away from Eve, though there is no win formula so to say. With a plan, some sensible thinking and an amount of isk to invest (isk makes isk) you can earn quite a comfortable amount in a day.

True. It's not free money. But it is money you can earn without much effort (after the initial effort to get to that point). Once you get past the initial difficulties it's all a matter of letting time do its work, and hauling the results for quick cash. ---

I don't know what kind of assets you can spend on investment but if you have access to 0.0 space you could put up one or two small moon mining POS. Depending on the mining product it can be very profitable for the effort of putting fuel and taking produce once every week or two. You will need to have a good logistics backbone close though, i.e. friendly carrier pilots who will transport your produce to empire for sale.
