I mentioned this idea on a thread in General discussion, but figured it belongs to feature discussion:
To fix problem with macrominers or other people abusing cloaking with large ships (bs), put in restrictions on using cloaks with these types of ships.
In practice this would mean normal covops ships would not be affected by the change (they are "cloaking" ships) and the soon to come t2 "blackops" bs (or whatever they were called) could also use cloaks, but fitting a cloak into a non-cloaking ship should either be made impossible or atleast limit the combat capabilities of the ship.
We allready got the WCS nerf a while ago, which was great: You either fit for fighting or fleeing - not both at same time. Why not do same for Cloaks: if you fit a non-cloaking ship with cloak, it is no good for fighting/ratting only hiding. Does this make sense?

Cloaks are fine. The problem is with "local." Always has been, always will be.

cloaks have several drawbacks, it is only that frustrated gankers wouldn't find them sufficient unless they where totally crippling for the ship at a level where a T1 frigate would kill a BS fitted with a cloak.
Hunters in EVE have a lot of advantages, making the cloaks useless would mean removing one of the few, costly (in terms of ship efficiency) protections against them.

Yep, gankers are the only ones who whine about cloaks. if macrominers are "abusing" cloaks, you blame the cloak and not the macroer right? 
cloaking wouldn't help without local being the advanced warning system, dont you think?
there's no acceptable "fix" for cloak, as it stands, the way in which it could ever be implemented in the game will still clash with other parts of the game's design. nerfing one module wont help.

There is a problem with cloaks atm. People who go to a system (even enemy !!) and sit in cloaked battleships for hours upon end then when they feel like it uncloak and attack a ratter is just absurd.
Uber idea solves all !! |
