The typhoon is truly the jack of all trades. As such, the types and fittings are greatly varied. Common setups are the nanophoon, which is your basic speed fit with torps and nos, a heavy tank phoon with cruise ACs and drones, support phoon specializing in multiple armor and shield reps, bait phoon that is all tank, anti cap phoon with a nos neut setup, etc etc. That said if you don't have an idea in mind as to what you want to do with your phoon, you probably shouldn't be flying one outside of PVE. A properly skilled phoon pilot needs a T2 armor tank, full cap skills, missile skills, gun skills, and drone skills, plus the basic minmatar requirement of high nav skills. For just missions a good setup is the following:
High:
4x AC (size depending on fitting ability) 4x Siege Launchers (again best fit)
Mid:
AB Cap Recharger x2 Target Painter
Low:
LAR II DCU II 3x-5x Hardeners/EANM depending on mission 1600 Plate (if slot available) BCU (if slot available)
Rigs: 3x CCC
Drones: 5x Heavy 5x Med
You can perma run the LAR and have resists at 75%+ across the board with this setup and should never have to warp out. With the TP your large ACs will be able to hit cruisers and your heavy drones frigs. If you have the drone skills using 5 webber drones is also very effective. If you have any trouble you can also swap out for a cruise missile fit, or artillery depending on preference.

What range will the changed torps hit out to?
I'm assuming it will be comparable to dual 650s w/ EMP?

Dude , sort of hard to reply because the Phoon can do so many different things.
Its one of the best level 4 Mission Boats, Uber 0.0 Rat Boat, Great in Gangs and also Solo PvP.
But the fits for each can be very different.

well not rly, dmg mods on split weapon systems is a waste. this is how I would do it, you loose 50 dps but with those hardeners you gain extra 20k effective hp

I've personally been wondering how useful a kiting nano-Phoon would be, even post-nerf. This would be what I would think people would do.
4x 800mm arty IIs 4x cruise launcher IIs Republic Fleet 100MN MWD Fleeting web Warp disruptor II (24km) Heavy T2 injector LAR II DCU II RCU II PDS II 2x Istab II Republic fleet OD 2x polycarb 1x auxiliary thrusters
Gets 2,671 m/s pre-implants, 393 DPS pre-drones, 710 with 5 Ogre IIs, 85 DPS sustained tank, 129 reinforced.
Don't know if it's viable, though, haven't tried it except in EFT. ------------------------------ One more soldier off to war... And one Velator in my hangars. |
