Your graphics card is unfortunately not supported, minimum requirements need an nVidia 6600 or better to run. Additionally Intel graphics cards less than the Intel GMA950 do not support T&L and can thus not run EVE without problems. Intel have released drivers that emulate T&L using the CPU but it's been known not to work well.
However, many "unsupported cards" do not work on Cedega, but fine on Wine (for more than a year, by the way).
This is really something that should be addressed by Transgaming. After all, Wine running something that a commercial software doesn't... makes no sense.

I had splash, crash and endless loop on Ubuntu 6.06 - which apparently isn't supposed to be supported anymore. I thought I was going to have to buy a new PC (as there's no way this one is migrating to a later version of Ubuntu just yet, for various reasons) - but I was saved teh expense, luckily:
It appears that the problem is that the patch tries to apply an update to DirectX, but the patch itself falls over, which is presumably what is looping.
What I did was to act as if installing the DirectX executable itself as a patch. - in Cedega, select install, then select your EVE online folder. - now browse into the directories until you find the Direct X executable (so the file tree is something like .cedega EON (I'v called my EVE online game folder EON) Program files CCP EVE bin
- and inside the bin folder you'll see a file called
RedistD3DXOnly.exe
click on that, and OK, and it should install the thing.
Then launch EVE as normal.

I have the same problem as my Athlon XP desktop (log posted above) and my Intel Pentium M notebook (log here).
Ubuntu 7.10, ati driver with working 3D acceleration (I know ATi isn't supported but it looks like the same problem as before).

I just installed ubuntu 7.10 last night in order to try this new EVE client. I have had no success with EVE in 6.10 using Cedega. Now I am having the Splash and Crash. As you can see I have an Athlon XP.

EVE is up and running. I installed RedistD3DXOnly.exe into my EVE Online folder and now it works like a charm.
Fix
I'm running the game with Cedega 6.0.3 on ubuntu 7.10.

I have nVidia GFX and Athlon processor. I now have a stable client working in Ubuntu 7.10.
Sadly I still can't get the wrapped "EvE-linux" client to work. My solution requires Cedega 6.0.3 (subscription).
The full description of my solution is in my posts (17 and 19) HERE.

I was having the splash problem (splash screen, then nothing), but installing the ENVY utility (linked on the first page) solved all my problems.
thanks a lot

Edited by: Tasko Pal on 03/12/2007 18:57:10 Edited by: Tasko Pal on 03/12/2007 18:56:41 Ok, I'm getting the infamous splash and crash (splash screen for ten seconds and exits). I'm running Ubuntu 6.06 Dapper with Intel CPU (as you can see below). Have Nvidia drivers and they pass the six tests. I've tried both ALSA and OSS. No difference. Log file is here (output from "eve -debugmsg +ddraw,+x11drv,+relay,+seh,+tid,+debugstr 2> eve_debug.out"), It uncompresses to 50+ Mb.

Searching for "err", I see the error:
Quote: 0005:err:shell:SHGetSpecialFolderPathA Failed to create directory 'C:\Documents and Settings\Local Settings\Application Data'.
Where would that directory be? I could try creating it by hand. The error appears twice in the log.

For those with the splash n' crash, could you try the prefs.ini modifications that us wine peeps do and see if that solves it for you?

Unfortunately, it's not getting to the point where I have a prefs.ini file. I just did a global search (as root) for every ini file on the system. No prefs.ini.
I went ahead and added the directory (to both my .cedega tree and the Eve installation, multiplayer BTW) that I noticed in the error message above, instead of crashing, it went into some infinite loop resulting in this 400 Mb log file (compressed to under 4 Mb).
Glancing through the log, I see a number of errors. These are all the appearances of "err:" in the above log file.

It may be order of installation too. I installed Cedega after I installed Eve. So some of the directory structure might not have been created. I'm reinstalling Eve and seeing if that does the trick.

Ok, that's weird. The Cegeda client is basically the Windows one wrapped in a different app. So there has to be a prefs.ini in there somewhere.
Not running the cegeda client I couldn't tell you where it is.

Well, I installed everything from scratch again. OS, envy, cedega, and eve client. I see the same errors as before. And no prefs.ini globally. A possible problem is that I've noticed that header files are three minor patches behind the kernel (2.6.15-26-386 not 2.6.15-29-386). This may be an indication that there's some slight problem with this Dapper installation. I don't know if that would matter or not. It appears to matter only to the nvidia driver which passes the cedega driver tests.

I'll reload the client for Trinity and report on how well things work this time. Hopefully, whatever was broken won't be.
