I had to leave EVE for a few months due to having no internet connection. When I left, salvaged armor plates were at around 2k, I believe. Right now, they're selling for 95k. Does anyone have any idea why the price jumped up nearly 5000%?

I think They became a requirement to make more rigs.(In addition to the ones that they were already required for). If that makes any sense, its late here and im tired. I don't know which rigs they got added to though.

Yeah, that's what I figured, but most salvage doesn't climb that high unless it's used in something that's very in-demand. I was just curious if any rig-builders happened to know what happened.

Edited by: Shadarle on 06/11/2007 03:16:47 Now this is the type of thread I was talking about in the other thread.
Discussing why the price of an item rose over a few months or weeks is far better than a useless speculation thread.
Unfortunately though I can't help you answer your question as to which rig is the reason for the price jump.

Armor plates are now a component in some of the armor rigs. I can't think of which, but turning the plates into a useful construction component did the trick with the demand. ----------------------------------

The question is why they used to sell for 2k before they were used for anything. When rigs were introduced the armour ones used contaminated nanite, charred micros and fried interfaces. The charred micros have since been replaced by armour plates.

Indeed this is the case, originally the armor rigs needed charred micro circuits in their construction when it should of been armour plates. Devs eventually got round to fixing this and the price of armour plates then started to rise as there was a demand.
The reason why ppl where buying then before the fix at 2k is purely on speculation that they would infact be used in the construction of rig/s at some point.
I for one invested heavily in armor plates before the fix and made a huge profit "A enemy fleet emerges from the shadows"

The price of armor plates has been rising steeply but consistently for the past two months across most regions. The fix must have had a part to play in this, but there seems to be an underlying long-term trend as well. |

Charred falled from 10k to 2k right after the patch where they stopped being used on armor rigs, and I had a huge stack of them :(
Now you will ask: why armor plates are 10 times more expensive than charred, despite being used on the same amounts on armor rigs? (if an armor rig used 100 charred before the patch, it used 100 plates after it)
The reason is because armor plates are salvaged less frequently from wrecks, while charred are dropped way more frequently. Aka, you can easily obtain a pile of charred from any level 2 mission, but only a few plates at most from level 4 mission.

I think at some point some rigs started requiring more Armor Plates to be manufactured.
I'm not positive on that though since I don't manufacture myself. My CEO commented on it, though he could well have been referencing the change from Circuits to Armor Plates that was made.

There was never a increase in the amount of armour plates needed to build a armour rig. Ignoring the price change from the change of components needed in a armour rig, the current increases in price is indeed due to;
A- stockpiles decreasing B- They arnt one of the more common rig components, ie they drop in smaller quantities and from fewer wrecks C- Demand for armour rigs is increasing, and due to the armour plates being the harder component to find the price is increasing as builders want more.
