No, it'll just let you use the content patch. The models and such are the expansion, I believe, so you'll still be able to play, you just won't see the fancy new everything. Nothing below the X1550 supports SM3.0
I've just dumped an X850XT crossfire setup for an X1650 Pro crossfire setup because I can't afford X1950's.
Bit of a come down but I'm replacing my Intel based setup with an AMD one based on the X580 Crossfire chipset which allows the full 16 lanes on both graphics cards, rather than the 16/4 split of my current Intel setup.

Edited by: Creesch on 07/11/2007 15:39:09 just to make it clear: http://myeve.eve-online.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&bid=511
Quote:
There will be two editions of the EVE client now, Trinity Classic with the old content, a more compact download which everyone will be able to run and Trinity, the upgraded client with the new content that utilizes the new graphics engine to its full potential. The latter will be a much larger download, so we will start by patching your existing Revelations II client to Trinity Classic. This will allow you to start playing immediately after we launch Trinity.
it is all explained there :) I think the percentage of near heart attacks would be a lot lower if people would read dev posts (and not just scan them, but read them in detail) :P

The specs page for the x1400 says it has SM3.0.
