So uh, I keep hearing about this deep core mining thing, and my corp has an original blueprint for it (not for sale, don't even ask). So, I'm curious, what is deep core mining? What happens if you use a deep core laser on something that doesn't need a deep core laser? Just in general: Deep core mining... tell me

Deep core mining lasers let you mine some new ore (mexorit i think) which refines to Morphite. You can't mine Mexorit (or whatever) with a normal mining laser, only a deep core mining laser.
You can mine normal ore with a DCM laser, but it takes ages compared to normal lasers

Also, the minimum requirements for the DCM skill are Mining V and Astrogeology V

Indeed they are very inefficient on normal mining ores. Worse then a miner 1 in yield.

The other posters forgot to mention that you only get a bit of mercoxite from mining arkonor(?) and spodumain(?), and not from the other ores.
Im not sure if its ark. and spod., i AM sure its only from 2 high-end ores, and that's nowhere in or near empire space.

Indeed, Dark Ochre (3), Spodumain (7), and Arkonor (17) yield very small quantities of this mineral (number in brackets).
Mercoxit ore refines to 530 units of Morphite.
