I really love linux but I got a 60% FPS drop when playing it in Linux, so dual booting continues for me __________________ Galaxy Punks are recruiting, click here for more info [site in beta ;)] |

Is that using the dedicated Linux build or using the Windows build under WINE?

FYI -- DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PLAY THE MAC CLIENT ON A MACBOOK.
Anyone with half an ounce of computer gaming knowledge should know that a 13" laptop with shared video memory and onboard video chipset isn't much of a gaming machine.
Sorry if I'm vehement about this, but there are people in other Mac client threads sending in complaints about crashes on Macbooks. Macbook Pros minimum, folks, for gaming. And even then, it's a stretch calling them "gaming laptops" with X1600 graphics cards from ATI/AMD.
Enjoy the new client -- I plan on blowing my lunch time doing L3 missions in a Brutix on my MBP.

Don't the intel macbooks have non-integrated video cards? I thought some of them did actually. Not a problem for me - i have the MacBook Pro... But I thought some would be beefy enough for it.
But yeah - runs FANTASTIC on my macbook pro... :)

So do I assume that most of you were already playing EVE on Mac through BootCamp or Parallels?

Probably, just as the LINUX users were using WINE(a windows emulator).

Too bad PowerMacs are out... it's nice to see Apple going to Intel Based Systems, but that leaves out the many folks that spent many $$$ on the Powerful Macs of the non-Intel era.. which sucks, cause my PowerMac can beat up any Intel Mac anyday!

I was playing it in the BootCamp beta. I have not upgraded to Leopard yet, as I'm waiting on the first round of OS updates.
I had no problems playing EVE in BootCamp, except for having to reboot to do it. That said, I did a little trading last night in the new Mac EVE client, and there were a lot of question marks for portraits -- of nearly everything (characters, ships, modules, etc.).
One thing that's irritating on an MBP -- the function keys at the top require that you press Fn to access F1, F2, etc. Otherwise, when you go to activate modules, you end up turning off the laptop screen or sound or the keyboard lighting.
Wish they had a separate bank of buttons for that, but, oh well.

Hi all, total newbie and first post here. Just wanted to point out that I'm playing EVE on my P1510, which has an even older and crappier integrated graphics card than a standard Macbook, with only 512MB of RAM and a 1.2 Ghz Pentium M to boot. I get very decent performance out of it while ratting and running missions.
I've grabbed the client for my own Macbook and I think it'll play pretty nice, especially with a 2.0 Ghz Core Duo and 2 gigs of RAM.
It won't be the awesomest [sic] thing ever, but it'll run and probably even look pretty. I would definitely look to my desktop if I planned on getting into large-scale PvP, but the Macbook should more than cut it for missions, etc. Just an FYI from someone playing on an even lower-spec'd system.
