Brand new machine (specs are at home atm) will update when am back home.
I start up eve and it runs great/around 25-30fps with turret and effects on. Randomly it will put me back to the desktop and restart the machine saying it has had a fatal error.
It happened 3 times in the space of an hour last night along with the blue screen of death (thought we had seen the last of that) there is nothing else running on the machine other than Norton anti virus and eve.
After the machine crashes and has rebooted I was getting an error when opening eve saying I would need to reinstall it? it did work with the original client after double clicking it again.
The only info I have found is to run eve as the administrator (not sure if that will help)
My old machine (that runs eve fine) has packed up and is away being repaired so unless I can fix it I may be stuck with no eve for a week or so (the misses would love that lol).
Thanks in advance for nay help bunds

Sounds like dodgy ram to me run memtest on one stick at a time and see if you get any errors.

When you get the blue screen, write down the error code (mix of letters and numbers at the top)
If you cannot see the error code (computer restarting just after you see the blue colour) check your event viewer. (right click "this computer" -> manage -> event viewer) (event viewer may have a slightly different name in vista, can't remember now and I'm on a XP machine
Once you have the error code, google it.

I have Eve on 3 of my Vista boxes, yet to see that issue, however STOP errors (BSOD) are fairly rare so that will be noted normally in the event log. Two things that Idid that helped me when I first installed it:
1) I have UAC off and still I right click the install .exe and run as admin, theoretically not needed but it seems to work well with troublesome programs
2) All of the problems I have had with my Vista box are related to graphics drivers...the one stop error I got after 8 months of running it was related to a nvidia driver problem
3) ATi does not seem to like the Eve client sometimes.
Hope it helps , with more specific info I might be able to help more. |

Here's the question, does it still do this with turret effects and the like disabled? Does it occur regardless of where you are (station, empty space, gas clouds, belts, etc) or what you are doing (mining, fighting, sitting still, etc)?
If you can narrow the instances in which it is crashing, it might help to locate the source. If it's continuously in the same instance, I'd wager it might be a display driver issue, and you should check for a new updated one for your card (inversely, if you just updated the drivers, roll them back to an earlier one).
Otherwise, I second testing your ram, one stick at a time.

Dodgy RAM modules are known to do this - in fact happened to me on my brand new rig. Modules hadn't been put in 100% - took them out, make sure they were clean and put them back in no problemo.

My friend and fellow EVE mate had the same problem, turned out to be a RAM compatability issue with his mother board.

Aye its either a ram or driver problem and ffs get rid of norton and install some antivirus that doesnt use 99% of your pc's resouorces :)

The other thing besides ram to check is power supply. When graphics gets intensive, you can draw too much power causing a problem. This especially with those new graphics cards that have a separate power cable just for the card.
I had a computer where the same set of power leads I used for the graphics card were shared by the hard disk. I experienced weird reboots. I switched it to its own independent lead for power from the power supply and the problems disappeared.
But your problem definitely sounds more likely hardware related than software.
