Just wondering... is CCP re-doing the background textures, or will we be stuck with the same old 16bit low-resolution solar system textures? -----

I think they said at the fanfest that they will be keeping the old backgrounds for the time being.

I think CCP said on the fanfest that on the initial release of Trinity II only the ships, stations and stargates will have been retextured and remodelled. I believe the same question was raised on the dev panel concerning the background nebulas. The answer in short was that they want to redo them, but that they can't remember how the nebula textures were made in the first place.

CCP have said at the FanFest that the first release of the new graphics engine will only include the new ships, stations and stargates.
Backgrounds, effects and planets will be done later. They said the reason for this was that backgrounds are much harder to do than you might at first think, and they need to spend lots of time on them to make sure they are actually updated, so that they look better, but are still identifiable as EVE backgrounds. They decided that it was better to do this at a later stage instead of eating into the time doing the other things.

Man, I'd love to see black backgrounds, with maybe only certain systems like those with landmarks, and those of COSMOS importance having a nebula like gas cloud.
Would be win... It'd actually make areas of space feel different, and individual from eachother.

Almost every system has nebula cloud like effects, its like, we are just in one huge gas giant planet with sub orbital stations and floating rocks. If Pluto received as much sunlight as I see in systems with more than 150 AU from the primary, it would'nt be such an iceball.

Homeworld had the best backgrounds ever. Nuff said :P Also, dynamic lighting would be epic, closer you are to the sun the brighter everything is, when you get to 100au it'd be almost black. Then again, imagine how much of a pain it'd be piloting around 150au from the sun, with a black background you couldn't see ****.
CCP, a request: Remove nos. Reduce metagaming. Remove POS's and POS warfare. Remove rigs. Thank you, Zav |

Which is precisely what I think would make it cool. Having to flip on your 'headlights' to see the asteroid/rat/nyx/etc. At least visually.
