Question: Whats is a good solid defense, whats cheap and easy to use. Or even better a solid tactic.
I've bin reading up on how targeting & tracking works, I believe when facing attackers that use turrets... getting a high trans velocity is the key in making hitting harder.
This correct? Spec's: Windows XP Professional AMD Athlon(TM) XP 3000+, MMX, 3DNow Memory: 1536MB RAM DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c NVIDIA 6800 Ultra 256.0 MB at 1280*1024 Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty

That really depends on your weapons and what ship size you are in. If your in a small ship (Frigate) with blasters then this could work. If you are running railguns yourself then it could cause you to miss as well. BTW it's called Speed Tanking if you ever wanted to search for more info.

If you tweak your overview settings, you can get it to show angular velocity, which is more useful to you than transversal velocity. Due to some interesting quirks in EVE's physics engine, the angular velocity that your ship has to the target is the same as their angular velocity onto you. (The thing to note is that your range to the target influences the angular velocity.)
Aside from speed tanking, your options are Shield Tanking (strap on a modules that help your shields) and Armour Tanking (kinda obvious by this point). I hear there's a... DAMN! How could the Guide not have a section on tanking?
I'll be right back....

Oh that's why. We link to a really good guide to tanking from these forums.

Thx for the feedback so far...
Shield/Armor tanking got it.
Lets say, I'm not a fighter... I prefer not get mixed up in a fight if I can. So my ship will not be out fitted with a whole lot of offensive items. Think along the lines of transport ships... but still frigate class for the moment...
If a pirate (player) is out to kill me, I'm sure he will be more then able to... Because so far, the only pirates I've seen had ships 10 times bigger then mine.

There is no i-win button defense that will save you any time. There are different types of tank and they work well in some situations and not so well in others: 1. your basic shield and armor tanks when you mount up high resistances and a lot of hp, doesn't work so well if you get caught by a gang that has significantly greater numbers 2. speed tank where you go too fast for opponent to hit or alternatively you can run away from him if you're losing, but if you get webed this tactic fails 3. electronic warfare tank where you mess with his sensors with e-war mods but your opponent can circumvent this and his drones will still be pretty angry with you

First, being in a frigate when they're in a ship 10 times bigger than yours is already a good start. You are (a) faster (unless they are fitted with a microwarpdrive) and (b) smaller. Smaller makes it take longer for them to lock on to you, giving you more time to have a chance at getting away.
When you say, make yourself a hard target, you really need to expand in what kind of activities you plan on engaging in. My knee-jerk reaction to that question is (a) stay in high sec and (b) don't carry things that are super valuable in your cargo hold. So don't fly a billion ISK worth BPO around, afking in your frigate.
But you probably mean you are flying around in low sec, so how can you make yourself a harder target? Well, what are you doing in low sec? Are you simply going from gate to gate, transporting some small item in your frigate? Then the answer is fairly simple:
Use the time when you arrive cloaked in a system to your advantage. Take note of how many ships are at the gate, how large they are, and most importantly, what the target to warp towards will be. Keep planets on your overview when doing this; it will give you more targets to jump to. Choose a target to warp to that is closest to your alignment (you have to turn less). Right-Click -> Warp to x km and hope they can't lock you in time. Something that might be helpful in this kind of activity is a cloaking device if you have to turn to align to a warp target. You arrive cloaked after jumping, so hit your max speed button; this will decloak you. Then quickly hit your ships cloak. Then double click near the object you want to warp to. Your ship will align. Then you must, as quickly as possible, turn off your cloaking device and activate warp.
In any case, it wouldn't hurt to fit nano-fibers on your ship. This will help you accelerate quicker, and therefore reach warp quicker.
Other thing to do: Make safe spots in a system you will be visiting often or spending some time in. You can make another thread to ask about safe spots. ;)
