At present I can target at 69k yet the info says it has a maximum range of 60k.
I've seen sniper ships, so how is it done ? -----------------------------------------------

The maximum target range in the item database is actually the base range you start with, before your skills are taken into account. So, if you have Long Range Targeting at Lvl 5, you get a 25% bonus which gives you 75km range. Not sure if there are other skills released to increase range.

There are modules that increase range as well. Snipers use sensor boosters.

Long Range Targeting is it, but you can of course add Sensor Boosters to increase your lock range. You won't be doing much "sniping" with the Drake though, since it's a missile ship, so if your target is called primary it'll likely be dead long before your missiles get there, or it will just warp out.

Edited by: L0st S0ul on 08/11/2007 14:55:21 Yeah I know, was thinking whether to get a Rokh or Raven next.
Porblem is i've concentrated on missile skills so a sniping Rokh is probably too far off to train.
I'm mission running in Drake at the moment until I can afford a BS and wanted to know max range on it. -----------------------------------------------

60km - base 75km - 25% from Long range targetting 120km - 1x Sensor Booster II 182.58km - 2x Sensor Booster II 245.08 km - 3x Sensor Booster II 249km - 4x Sensor Booster II's and above. Rigs and Amplifiers give a longer theoretical range, but it's caped at 249km.
Have fun.

Wow thank you.
I'm guessing though you will also have to booster missiles flight time or a guns range for sniping too.

There are modules to improve gun range, tracking computers and enhancers. There are also rigs.
There are however so far no modules for missiles, except for rigs. Nor are there any EW-modules to decrease it.

In addition to sensor boosters and the long range targeting skill, if your in a group with someone who has the leadership skill information warfare, it grants +2% to targeting range per skill level. Its not a huge amount, but it can help.
To increase missle range, in addition to the rigs and implants take a look at the missle bombardment skill and the missle projection skills which increase flight time and missle volecity.

Missile range is pretty nice for missions (you can start engaging from farther out, and typically you want to be far out), however, for PvP sniping, it's turrets all the way.
For sensor range: Fit signal amplifiers (no-cap lowslots, not too great) Fit sensor boosters (pretty nifty, but the effect can be a dead giveaway) Train Long Range Targeting Gang bonus
For missile range Train Missile Bombardment and Missile Projection Some ships have a missile velocity bonus, train the appropriate ship skill Fit two rig types: hydraulic bay thrusters and rocket fuel cache partitions Short-range missile types have the Javelin T2 type, which has extended range at the cost of ship speed and damage
For gun range Train Sharpshooting and Trajectory Analysis (optimal and falloff respectively) Fit tracking enhancers (no-cap lowslots) and tracking computers (some-cap midslots) Some ships (especially the Caldari snipers like the Rokh) have ship boni Ambit extension rigs for falloff, locus co-ordinators for optimum Autocannons have Barrage (+50% falloff), blasters Null (+25% falloff, +25% optimum), pulses Scorch (+50% optimum). Long range guns have +80% sniping ammos, for artillery it's Tremor, beams Aurora, railguns Spike ------------------------------ One more soldier off to war... And one Velator in my hangars. |
