After losing all my drones in my first cosmos mission last night, I found myself unable to track any of the small frigates and fighters that were webbing and jamming my battlecruiser. Even bringing all seven heavy lasers to bear, I could not lay a glove on any of them. I got to sit and watch as the three of them, and the two battleships backing them up, melted me in a matter of minutes.
So resigned that this will not happen again, I am now looking at mid slot modules to counteract. I'm trying to decide whether to use a target painter, to increase the resolution of individual targets -- or stasis webifiers to try and grab each of the little buggers and pop them one at a time.
Thoughts? -- Meridius Dex --

Edited by: Delnas on 08/11/2007 21:25:04 How fast are they going? What ship do you fly? What guns do you use? How fast do the frigates go? How far away are they orbiting you?
Harbinger w/ Pulse with frigates going under 4km/s transversal at 18km, go for Target Painter and don't forget range appropriate crystals, for example.

A web is deffinately your best bet, but have you considered the way you use your drones? Remember to have everything aggroed (red) before you launch them, that way they can follow random commands as they wish without being killed. Not by npcs, at least (Yes, I have shot down a drone or two by now )

Thread does not deliver. I was expecting a story, funny, surprising or otherwise interesting. Instead I got to read Kehmor's smacking. Awesome.

I was flying the Harbinger, using Heavy Beam lasers and Gamma crystals. The enemy were orbiting at 7KMs, not sure how fast, but I certainly couldn't outrun run them even with my AB burning (400 KMs/sec).
Are target painters better suited for longer distances? Will a web reduce their speed enough to account for not only the transversal, but also their smaller sigs?

in my experience, web is usualy enough to kill friggies if you have close range guns fitted(autocannons, blasters and pulse lasers) if if its bs gun against inty. might take a couple of rounds with each gun though, and painter would help but not without a web(need web to get radial velocity down to be able to hit at all)
long range guns agaisnt smaller target in web range usualy have tracking problems even agasint webbed targets though ----- GIEV custom ship paint jobs! I want my hello-kitty-kessie!

As has been said, you must have made a mistake with your drones for them to have all been destroyed. If you're using beams I'd assume a web would be a fair idea, along with better drones handling. ---

If you can fly 400ms you can pretty much fly parallel to them and zero the transversal. Then its like shootign fishes in a barrel.
If brute force doesn't solve your problem... you are not using enough |

Go with a web. It'll lower their transversal enough for you to hit. Tracking is probably your problem, not signature radius.
If you don't mind the range hit grab Medium Pulse with atleast .09rad/sec tracking. You can hit them as long as they are under 4km/s, maybe even a little higher with skills.

Best solution: don't get your drones killed, use them to whack the small ships.
Second solution: use webs and your own speed to try to reduce transversal and watch them eat photons. ------------------------------ One more soldier off to war... And one Velator in my hangars. |

It's angular velocity, not radial (minor nitpick). ------------- Stop whining.
