My Power supply fan is too loud, like BRZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ noise. Like its choking on something. I've recently tried to mount it in a different way to fix the problem but that didn't work. I don't want to buy a new one, does anyone have something that can fix it? When I turn the computer on, login to windows account and then turn the fan off (computer shuts down) then turn the fan on and turn the computer on, its fixes it. I know that isn't healthy for my compute but its the only fix. Anyone have any better ideas?

I had a faulty fan on a power supply once, it didn't make a noise but it was running too slowly, causing my PSU to overheat and give random, nasty crashes. What I'm getting at is, it's not worth the trouble really, if you can get it replaced then go for it (I never bothered as I would have to post it off and then almost certainly wait weeks for a replacement) else just buy a new one, and not a cheap one!

Blow the dirt out.
Or...***** your PSU open and replace it. I made that sound easy.

The bearings are loose. When the fan spins up, it oscillates laterally preventing the fan from getting up to full speed. All you can do to fix it is try to tap it in the hopes that it spins up to full speed to which the gyroscopic force will keep it in place. _______________________________________________ RuntimeError: ChainEvent is blocking by design, but you're block trapped. You could always change the fan. |

I usually just hit my case when noises start to pop up. Hasn't failed me yet.

The fan is dying. Cos it is of poor quality or it has clogged up thanks to dust or it's dying cos of age(read poor quality)
Get a Seasonic PSU and be done with it.
Yes it is that simple.

I have exactly the same thing on my 2nd computer. The only thing to do is to hit the case where the psu is. I do that everyday and its been like that for over 12 months. No worries eh cobber

I've been smacking, pounding and kicking it for weeks and it fixes it. Now it doesn't fix it, it just gets worse.

They usually take a common case fan. You could open it up and see if its plugged into the board. If it is, gravy if its not...doesnt take long to figure out how to wire splice it in. _______________________________________________ RuntimeError: ChainEvent is blocking by design, but you're block trapped. Blow it out with compressed air. When my fans start sounding like chain saws a good dust off does the trick.

When i was at uni, my mates PSU started making a weird buzzing sound, it turned out that the rear (exhaust) fan was catching on one of the wires (more a bundling of wires really) and was slowly chewing it's way through the 'plastic wrapping' of the wires. He bought a new PSU (after we complained that the noise he was generating was drowning out the tv).
I'm going to make the assumption that you're not a fully qualified electrician, so I think it may be best to just get a new PSU, as opening a PSU is not recommended unless you really know what you're doing (or are soooo drunk you just don't give a ****). =============================================

The Capacitors inside of a PSU can KILL YOU if you touch them with your bare hands. Do not open a PSU unless you really know what the hell you're doing. ____________________
