IŠve been in this game for a while now, trying to find a system with a station in empire holding a good supply of ores, but after 3 months i still cannot find any.
I heard that CCP was gonna fix it a long time before Castor was even implemented , but they still have not done that. It is impossible to make it as a solo-player focused on mining for production, and i am not trying to make it as a big builder - just Amo ,modules and weapons.
Today i scouted 7 !! systems and only found small tiny roids that died after a few minutes mining. I have heard of Scordite Roids that holds over 100k Scord, but the ones i have mined died after 20k..
Why has not CCP fixed this problem.
Kisogo, Emrayer, etc etc. all those systems for new players have more secure cans in their belts then they have roids. I talked to one of the helpers about 2 months ago and asked for help and where i could mine. He said:
- You need to go to another system to find good ore, CCP are aware of the situation and are working on the problem. (this was abit more then 2 months ago - pre castor)
If you are a noob, you dont wanna be forced to travel 10+ jumps in an Ibis just to find aa system with 2-3 battleships in each belt - killing the entire system in a day or two.
I have also spoken to many "veterans" in this game and according to them, CCP has been aware of this HUGE problem almost since the release of retail - but still not fixed it.
Please make it possible to find and mine good ores again and make it without having to join a mega corp or a big alliance.... Fix the belts.

Been with the game awhile? Then you would like to know of a neat invention called a survey scanner. Once within 5km of an asteroid, activate your survey scanner, and it will tell you the yield of the asteroid or asteroids in survey range. This is a good way in finding and picking out an individual asteroid to mine that will yeild the most ore.
I dunno I still see asteroids all over the place in empire space. Each system usually contains 5-15 belts all with usually the same ore. With 5000-10000 people online, that leaves ALOT of lonely belts.
I may be jumping to conclsuions here since I am not a miner and you are actually using a survey scanner, but i htink its logical to say in .7 or below your gonna find high yield ore. Maybe not all the time but im sure if you took the time to look in more then 7 systems you would find a nice peaceful, low traveled, system where you can mine to your hearts content with only minor inconveniences.

How to find lots of ore in Empire space:
1) Don't even THINK of mining in a highway gate system. 2) Avoid 1.0 systems, they attract strip-miners 3) If you can handle NPCs, go to a 0.5 or 0.6 system. If you MUST insist on no spawns, 0.9 is more likely than 1.0 to have ore left.
Look for a system with a refinery that is off the beaten path. Dead-end systems are great for this. I don't mine a lot, but when I do I usually hit a mid-security system with only one gate. Get a few jumps away from the crowded highway systems and there's PLENTY of ore...

These suggestions here are pretty much the right course of action. You really need to take a look at out of the way places.
It's unfortunate, but the easiest places to make money attract those people who don't want to 'work' for their money. And that is the starting systems. With so many new players, it's not unusual to find that most of the roids that are left are smaller, and hold less valuable ores than they normally would. Find yourself an out of the way system, 0.9 and you will notice that you can find plenty of asteroids and raw ore.
Heck you can even try your hand at mining in .8 or .7 systems where the pirates are relatively easy to defeat. And you might find that the lower the security level of the system you go to, the more valuable and plentifull the ore is. --------------------------------------------------

This is true, but only to a degree. Operating out of Torrinos into the surrounding 0.0 systems all you will find is Jaspet, there used to be Crokite in ec-p8r but its as barren as a very barren place thats been made to look really barren...

Don't forget that apart from the main highways most 1.0 systems are meant to be safe secure starting points for players new to eve.
These people have minimal skills and a rookie ship so even the easiest pirate is not somthing to be lightly ignored. These guys need places to do some mining in piece and earn some inital isk to get started and learn about the world around them.
They should NOT be forced to go out into the lower security space straight away becuase some miners are too lazy and greedy to mine in a 0.8 or lower.

Edited by: Mau dib on 02/03/2004 10:55:00 CCP PLEASE PLEASE do not listen to this guy. KEEP THE ROID SPAWN SLOOOOOW. Force players out of empire into the more difficult areas to mine. It forces players to work together and promotes competition, of which is a very important part of this game.
He wants easy access to ore. All you have to do is look at the map in this game and see hundreds of systems that are full of ore.

How about creating a jump point for noobies that allow only noobies through, could be done on skill points or a time limited system. After which if someone trys jumping into the system the gate doesn't activiate.
Then noobies have a safe, non-mined out system to get a foot hold in.

As a lone miner I do not understand the objections this post raises... i suspect that the writer has not ventured far from the major systems. There are heaps of places with lots of large roids and 0.5+ security... look for them.
I roleplay... there is this computer game called "Earth - The First Genesis" where i play a character in the early 21st century. |

You dear sir are missing the point here. A 2k rat in any .8 system is a great threat to any newbie miner in a bantam. I should know, i started a month ago. Mission agent said go mine 333 units of veldspar. I had to go to great lengths to find those frigging 333 units of veldspar. IMHO, players over 1 month, perhaps even less, shouldnt be able to activate their miners in 1.0 systems. This would eliminate the known mining alt char syndrome, as it wouldnt be cost effective training up new chars all the time to be able to handle the good mining cruisers. ----------------------

how many noob's do you know that dont think 20k scord is much ?
i have ben seting up buy order's the past few day's in noob systems and the max ore i see comeing in from new players is 5k at the most then there is the afk miner's they shoud be shot, as a new player you dont need roids with 100k scord in them

Edited by: Nashal Couronne on 02/03/2004 15:37:27 This is a difficult issue to address. But I am going to have to wiegh in on the side of the original poster. As a returning player, I knew that I could simply move into a 0.6 etc to mine, and if pirates came I knew how much damage I could take before I had to move to another belt, however Ive seen quite a few new players totally confused in the noob corp chat, because they have warped to every belt in their starting system and found no asteroids at all.
I think that most of you speaking out against the possibility of upping the respawn rate of roids in 1.0/0.9 systems are already established players, who probably havent flown a Velator/Ibis etc in a loooong time, and Im sure that when you started out, it was more than possible to mine your way to your first good frigate in a 1.0 system. The fact is, these days thats just not possible, a new player will have to go into areas that they are ill equipped to handle, simply because theres no ore left for them in 1.0/0.9 systems(Im talking about the starter systems and the area around them here).
As I said, this is a complicated issue, as CCP has to come up with a way to allow new players to get started, but at the same time make sure they are pushing more experianced players into areas where there is risk.
Whenever a new player asks about where to mine in corp chat, I tell them to ignore everything the tutorial told them and do agent missions, because if they try mining all that will happen s they will lose their noob ship over and over, and end up making no money.
Ah yes, I forgot to mention one thing: Has it occured to the person who posted before me that the reason they're not getting any substantial quantities of ore from the starter systems is simply because there is no ore left for the new players to mine?

This is a very good suggestion! It should be easy to have some "dead-end" systems that work like this. Best to use skill points to decide who can enter. Then people would not be able to fly any big ships there.
I think it might be a better suggestion and easier to implement than the one about not being able to activate the miners in 1,0.

I enjoy mining, and scouting, and I feel your pain, but it is misplaced.
Sunday evening I ran out of scordite/plague roids in a system (.8) I was mining. So I set out in search of more asteroids, the next system I jumped to had barely anything left.
I continued my search, and low and behold, 1 jump more and I found a completely virgin system, Scord roids holding between 60-100k, gigantic veldespar roids, pyro roids in abundance.
Point is, if you stick to the same systems everyone is mining from you are going to get slim pickings, check out the map, if there are no players in a system, it is a good bet there is probably ore there.

to correct the first post - the 'roids were re-spawned with Castor. I remember that magical morning in my HQ 0.5 system seeing all the huge kernite 'roids again
However, times they are a-changing and my HQ system now (which is 10 jumps from yulai so not exactly near the highway already) is pretty finished ore-wise now.
There is no doubt that over time this forces corps to move into fringe Empire space. This is probably a good thing, although reserving some fields for n00bs is sensible.
Maybe in 6 months time we'll be mining in 0.0 just for veldspar! _________________________________

the word noobs is soo over used. There are no new players jjust inexperienced. What the players of eve need to know is that skills are more important than isk you make. Skills drive the game. Not roids. There are many options now for the nwe players coming in. We can not play like we did 8 months ago. We must change the way of thinking. The game is changing underfoot, can you keep your balance and adjust to the new environment. Do you see a need and fullfil it.
Hauling, agents and corps are the new entrance tools. Forget what you presupose on new players and expand your skill in understanding a changing market. Being unemployyed is not the end but a new beginning. --------------------------

Simple fix. Make battleships and cruisers explode when activating mining lasers in 1.0

A day or two?!?
They must be _really_ bad miners!! More like an hour or two, besides, nubs should see all the empty belts and strip-mining, and think "I wanna do that!"
Then they can join a corp and meet people
