Hi
We need a system where you can change your characters name by contacting concord and filling a name change form. Now, the reason we don't have this kind of system is because corp thiefs, griefers and rest of the happy bunch would change name everytime they have been naughty. So here is my plan to make it work, we need it because if you have made your character name while drunk, you might want to change it after sometime.
1. When you check character history, you will find all the former names from the there.
Betty Baller "also known as" Betty thegriefer Betty noob Betty corpthief
2. When you search for character's you can see that they have change their names, so no problem finding old friends. 3. This service would cost 25 Euros, this would cover the development costs and keep it under control, so that you don't change name everyday.
So after this is implemented, you can change your name if you really hate it by paying small amount of money. Everyone still know's who you used to be, but now you have a better name. I cannot find ANY reason, why we should not have this service. It only has positive effects.
Please post your opinion's and i will listen.

As long as there is a viewable record on show that everyone can see, I don't really have an issue with it.
I'm not swapping my name

Bought a BMW recently?
The Dev's have said in the past they'll never ever do this unless the name breaks EULA. The idea ain't bad, but you have WOW in the topic so I hate it immediately.

Edited by: Sharon Mercedes on 09/11/2007 08:12:28 Actually, i put the WOW in there because it attracts more attention. Everyone and their mother wants to know whats up, if WOW is mentioned. I know the dev's have said this, but they have not considered this plan. There is no harm done, only money and happy faces to be made.

You are right, there is better things no doubt about that. This feature could be added when the time is right, i'm just bringing it up. Also, this would generate income for EVE.

Assuming there is a permanent record of names on your bio and that people have to pay real money same as pic change to do it then I'm all for it and see no downside.

Yes, but checking would be made easy. Also, if you would change your name several time's the price would increse. I think that is bit selfish thinking, and with a name like that....

This game has alts that are not identified to an account.
No other identity issue matters beyond that. So I neither support nor disagree. Because it doesn't matter.
Because we have alts. Change your name, don't change your name. What does it matter? You're probably an alt for some unidentifiable party anyway, why should anybody care what you choose to call yourself this week? -- Awwwww Diddums! Did I wardec your highsec alt recently or something? |

I vote no.
We don't 'need' a system to allow for name changes, there is nothing wrong with not being able to change your identity.
If you don't ilke your name, its either because your-: a) stupid and made a name you didn't like b) bought your character from someone c) are trying to escape a bad rep
None of them are a 'good' reason to change names, all are bad and encourage stupid folk & scammers

That would mean that you could change names a bunch of times, and thus lock certain names (if someone is called Awesome'steve, then changes it to Billy. nobody in the future would be able to set their name to Awesome'steve since it already have been used once).

a) it makes perfectly good sense to change name 2452463X5 or bettyboobz69 to something reasonable like Bob Smith. b) buying characters is perfectly fine in EvE. I see no reason why you couldn't change the name too. c) Who cares about reputation in EvE? I mean really. If you see 100bil floating around empty space you take it. It's just how much your face costs.
I would limit name changes to 1 per owner or something though. Just so you could fix dumb names if wanted to.

Yes limit to one name change would solve it. I have really hard time with this community, it seem that you cant come up with an idea that would please the 12 year olds. I kinda understand that, cause their brains are not fully grown, but still it annoys me. It's like a man came at your door and told you, that you won 1 million dollars in a lottery, this eve player would just reply, hmm this makes live too easy, it's too good to be true, naah give it to the neighbour.

This has already happened to a massive extent with alts. Just look at the number of characters who have been in npc corps for years. i doubt this would make the problem any worse tbh.

a) No, since you get to name your own char, if you called your char IRMUPPET631 and want to change it, your an idiot for naming your char that in the first place. CCP didn't force you to pick a stupid name, you did.
b) If your buying from the eve forum page, make sure to find out the name before you agree to a trade, otherwise you score stupid points for not making sure you know the full details of what your buying - if a player isn't willing to supply that, then i'd be highly suspicious, that or your buying the char from e-bay, which is against the rules and how your likely to end up with a korean random numbered name '18923457'.
c) Judging by the responses on this thread and others like it, alot of people feel a reputation in game is something you should not easily be able to escape, see the regular posts we have about alts being linked to mains.
So I still maintain that the only people who really would want a name changing system are muppets, stupid people and more likely, scammers.

I can think of another - the PvP Corp you want to join uses Eve Voice/Teamspeak and your name is unpronounceable (Qwrypgh), silly (Bigus Dikus) or can be mistaken for an order (Target Me).
But then if you really hadn't thought of that before you acquired all those Skill Points...
As a newbie I used to get invitations to join Corps simply because my characters have 'real' names appropriate to the game Universe. In case you hadn't noticed, NPCs have TWO names and they are not nicknames. Why this occurs to less than 1% of players is beyond my understanding! Perhaps it's something to do with the 'real PvPers are so NOT roleplayers' fraternity.
IF CCP wanted to help with this, they could add some positive advice to the character creation process. At minimum, warning people about Eve Voice would be good.

Names could be changed during your trial period only, or a time limit of, say, two weeks, after you create your account. That way when you fly about a bit and realize that Johnny Starman is more than ridiculous, you could change it to Ohnn s'Tarma or whatever. At the very beginning of EVE the potential to make mistakes in character name, as well as initial character setup, (i.e. going with Amarr) can be a real millstone.
(My other main character is Amarr, I've learned to live with it and enjoy the challenge, by the way.)
All that said, what you actually do is most important. YOU'VE NEVER ROCKED 'TIL YOU'VE UNDOCKED. |
