Hi there
I'm thinking about to choose EvE-Online as my theme for the 8 minute presentation i have to do. One thing i'm concerned is the low contrast beamers and the dark EvE-Grafics.
So i need some nice Pictures from EvE :-) - any hints?
Second - what would you present in 8 Minute (thats the absolut maximum time - and thats realy short!).
- Short explanation what EvE is. - Maybe some statistic Data (Player base, diffrent ships or Items? - short outlook in the diffrent professions
and then i'm thinking i'm over 8 minutes ;-).
Cheers, Smilla

Trying to cover Eve in 8 minutes would be very challenging.
How about just covering one small aspect - like "your first day in Eve?"
You could start out with general overview of what the game is, then move into:
-- character creation (with screen shots of character creation steps) -- use of tutorial and tutorial agents (with screen shots) -- explanation of sense of community (chat channels - Corp, Rookie Chat, etc)
I think you could do easily do that in 8 minutes and to enough detail that it would be interesting.

Edited by: Refugee007 on 11/11/2007 21:04:31 bear this in mind... and i know this is going to come over as a joke, but it's meant seriously.
if you do a presentation on EVE you'll lose all street cred in about 5 seconds.
..unless i've misjudged where your presenting here.

I'm a bit new to eve, but it seems to me a general informational presentation would be boooring. However, one of the things that roped me into trying the game was the occasional threads/stories of a specific conflict/day-in-the-life/drama/etc of some character/corp/faction. Can't remember details, but I was enthralled the first time I heard the story of the discovery, attack and eventual destruction of a Titan. It was like listening to a war story. I was also amazed at how many aspects of the game were involved in one goal: social (anti-social), economy, politics, technology (both in and out of game), and even exploits.

also you should make sure you point out that they hired a full time economist, the game is all one shard with 150,000 people player together, and that they release an expansion every 6 months, and they are inwards exspansion ranging form walking in statons to new graphics to planetary combat. and they are free.
they are also building one of the largest super computers in england right now :) Official fanboy of jenny< pink supporter! looking to work in the art department with CCP, 3 years and counting. http://www.digipen.edu/main/Gallery_Games_2004#Narbacular_Dropthi |

Well, i can choose whatever i like and its more about how i do it - Keynote and the performance from myself - then the subject. But you could have right.... thats a risk.
My last presentation was: "Mac, the better PC" and in the jury was a guy from Microsoft

Just try not to come across as a gamer who just thinks it's a cool game. Try to speak as if you're a scholar who finds the whole thing fascinating but may or may not actually play it herself.
Talk about how this is a unique virtual economy with almost all parts of the supply chain driven by players. By the fact that players can only fly around shooting bad guys because *other* players are motivated to mine the ore and manufacture the ships, guns, and ammunition. Somehow, as in real life, people gravitate toward different professions. As in real economics, firms enter and exit markets chasing excess profits, and laws of supply and demand manifest themselves.
Or talk about the similarly interesting social situation in which players form corporations such that equally "good" and "moral" people see one another as good guys or bad guys depending on the situation and their affiliations, and that somehow this all works. Not to mention the pirates.
Good luck with that.
