At the moment exploration is majoritarily a single player profession. Sure, you can bring a friend along to help you kill the NPC's but it usually stops there.
So, the basis of my idea is to get groups of explorers finding sites together. The basic idea behind this is that the players combine the computers of their ships to increase the accuracy and speed of scanning results. For the purpose of this example I'm going to use two explorers trying to find a site, Player A and Player B.
Player A deploys his probes. Once he is done he warps to Player B. Player B then locks onto Player A and uses a remote module that links the two ships together. Player A then starts analyzing the data from his probes, which now give a more accurate result and takes less time to analyze. Probe strength stays the same as it is a property of the probe not the ship/pilot. Perhaps T2 probes could be used to get stronger strength probes.
With this in mind we can expect a few changes to exploration:
- A midslot "Remote Computer Network Link". This module can either (via scripts) increase the accuracy of the result or speed up the analyzing time
- A rig to increase the effectiveness of these modules
- A skill to increase the effectiveness of these modules
Using such a system we can look forward to some enhancements and "boosting exploration":
- Since this link requires a lock, linked ships cannot cloak. This means that while you are more effective you can be found. Risk vs Reward.
- CCP can introduce sites MUCH harder to find, perhaps sites that can only be found using this method. The reward should be much higher too.
- Two or three linked ships could be enough to find cloaked ships using recon probes!
- Fewer probes used with normal sites
- Players exploring and probing in teams
- Someone to talk to in local

These ideas kick ass. Team exploration is something a friend and I would do a while back with multiple probe sets to increase the chance of the first hit. Adding a feature set like the one described above would be a very, very good thing for explorers.
And the finding cloaked ships thing would be nice as well.
CCP - please stop with the nerfing and boost something already. |

At the time of writing I actually didn't know base 4 sites existed, untill I found one the other day. The problem is it took me 6 hours and almost 50 probes to get it. The reward wasn't worth the time at all, but if I had a friend to help me do it in an hour or two it would have been much more worth it!

Hmm, the ability for cov-ops probers to team up and form a sort of sensor 'net' could have some nifty applications. I approve.

Intresting suggestion, but "Two or three linked ships could be enough to find cloaked ships using recon probes!" Only cloacked ships non recon, cov ops, black ops type. X-ray nuclear pumped laser:

You can almost see the linking module as similar to a remote sensor booster or remote tracking enhancer, except this is a "remote scanning booster" module.
