There seems to be a bug in Leopard concerning DHCP and auto DNS. When I had set my router to allocate the DNS for my client machines (all 3 Intel Macs, all running Leopard),I would intermittently have network issues. I manually entered my ISP¦s DNS in Networking/Choose appropriate connection/Advanced/DNS and behold, the problems are gone. Apparently this might have also caused the infamous Eve freezing.
Would appreciate feedback if the workaround helped you.

I wonder if the freeze issue might actually be the same issue as the "lost connection" issue? Sometimes I get a freeze, and sometimes I'm kicked back to the login screen with a "lost connection" message. If so, I doubt it has anything to do with the network per se. Rather, it appears to be some bug in the client.

Edited by: Custor Aquilae on 10/11/2007 18:57:19 Ok,I think there are two kind of freezes really, one you can force quit out of,the other one locks up the machine completely. The former just might be related to a couple of TCP settings that are changed in 10.5: I have made a couple of changes according to various "well informed sources". Step by step instructions: -------------------- Open /Applications/Utilities/Terminal enter "sudo su" followed by an admin user¦s password navigate to /etc "cd /etc" enter "vi sysctl.conf" copy and paste these lines to the new file: net.tcp.sockthreshold=0 net.inet.tcp.sendspace=64240 net.inet.tcp.recvspace=64240 save the file by hitting ":" and typing in "wq" reboot your Mac ------------------------ I do not have time for the long version and reasoning of/for this fix,but I believe it resolves the connectivity issues some people are having with 10.5 in general and Eve in particular.
As for the hardware lockups.....sounds like an ATI problem...as usual /sigh.

Are you talking about the "RWIN" settings? http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1199772
Apple is seeding 10.5.1 to developers, some issues concerning Airport should be fixed through this upcoming update. However, the 'main' freezing issue is due to this transgaming-release, imho. If CCP can't hire Mac developers, they should avoid using third-party technologies and then claim that "Eve has been released for Mac and Linux". This is somehow false advertisement. CCP should say "Activate your account and you will get a free cider version".

Being an ADC member I know that and I will not comment on the quality of 10.5.1 :) I am trying to narrow down the possible causes for the freezes/dcs and I believe they might be networking related.

ADC here :)
I did not test the game through Ethernet connection, yet. However I hope it's a network issue, but doubt it.
