Edited by: Isang Relow on 02/03/2004 15:13:15 I cant remember whether or not these will be added to Eve but im gonna add my idea about them anyway.
Jump Drives: -
1. Level 3 Battleships only.
2. About 500 CPU and 1000 Powergrid to use.
3. Tech 1, 2 and 3 versions perhaps Tech 4.
4. All jump drives last for a limited amount of jumps before they burn out, but the Tech 2 version lasts longer than Tech 1, Tech 3 lasts longer than Tech 2 and so on.
5. Once jump drive is activated it uses 75% of your cap, but each Tech version decreases that amount.
6. Cant remember if i had thought of a number six, but this should be enough.
Opinions?

Not too hot on the BS idea. I think it would be good to be able to get different flavours of jump drive, much the same way as you get different flavours of MWD. one for a frigate, one for a cruiser and so on
This may bring a courier option to the game. As i remember in the days of Elite, a small ship with a big engine was efficient on fuel consumption and time so you were able to complete missions quicker & easier
maybe they could bring ship mass into it also but this is adding to an already complex area
Givf JumpDrives anyway Gunther Hoosler

Well i suggested Battleships because i think they should only be for them, maybe there should be smaller versions for cruisers but not frigates. Maybe Tech 3 frigates would be able to handle the power needs but not the standard ones, same with cruisers, maybe Tech 2 for them. Anymore opinions?

what i think about Jump drives :
1. different engine , which can be mount on different ship .
2. some fuel should be used , instead of cap .
3. diefferent characteristics like power ( wich with ur mass will determinate speed) , precision , and range .
4. some skills must improve ur results .
5. system of signature and signature analysis , like in old Elite , to show where u go ...

humm It was my understanding that jump drives are for Titans which, due to their size, can not use the star gates.
If jump drives are going to be available for reg ships e.g. battleships, cruisers, frigates, I can not but wonder what the PvP pirates are going to say when one can just jump from system to system and not use star gates.

Perhaps when one uses their jump drive and skips across a couple systems (better jumpdrives can go further in a single activation), there is a significant recharge time. I'm not referring to cap, but to a set recharge time, say half an hour between jumps. THis way a player can't go hopping all over the place just because they have a fast recharge time.

They should defo NOT be allowed on frigs.
Cruisers, perhaps, but it should pretty much cripple them. The only ships that should have viable jump drives imo are BSs (or bigger) & a new BS-sized uber-hauler. ____________________________________________

That's why i said they only last a few jumps, and only one system at a time.

Thats how I understood it.
Perhaps you could have a Jump Group skill .. the higher the level .. the more grouped ships a Titan could take with it (when they turn up in game that is)? Not sure what this adds too the game though .. :/ .. I'm tired. Time for my beauty sleep.

Think they will put the jump drives on titans :), along with docking bay's so titans can carry ships

yes but considering gameplay , allowing each ship to have hyperjump , and each pilote to lose less time with boring travel , will be a lot better .
this would make jump more interesting , because u'll have to spend time preparing ur travel instead of spending time looking at it .
and this would make running after / from someone instead of waiting at gate / trying to pass .
i love this game , but i personnaly think that certains aspect should be changed instauring "more fun".

as an alternative there could be modules that can create artifical "semi-stable" wormholes that would need a special skill to operate that would increase the amount of time that the wormhole would stay open per level Keep Flaming, Im reloading |

when titans come out you should HAVE to put a photon partical accecerator warp core in it to get it to move (warp)

Makes no sense to manufacture a ship incapable of warping...

Edited by: Psy Corp on 04/03/2004 08:30:37 specialized recon/scout battleships with jump drive as an alternative.. and only them and titans.. anyway a special type of ship..
i mean we are getting special ships now like interceptors/bombers/recon and those so i think making a special sort of the battleships able to use them...
and how they should work i think theres alittle indication to how here

i agree maybe not all ship should be allowed to jump .
but defintely stop that gate system
i am not paying to see my ship traveling 80% of my playtime

I definitely agree that more than Titans should be allowed to use jumpdrives. Just make it so that if the ship isn't big enough, let's say a lv. 3 cruiser is minimum size, it would take a certain amount of time for the jumpdrive to "kick in" and take you to the next system.

Another alternative is two different set of ships, those that are built to be able to fit a jumpdrive and are inferior in combat to those built without this capability, a perfect tech III fit.

I came back to this thread to see what's posted and after re-reading the posts what most people are saying is, in essence, travel time stinks. Now if everyone will remember prior to the Castor update, BS's, Indys, all were "fast" ships. They lined up to warp faster. After burners made em go faster, MWD's made em very fast. Now PvP players all complained that BS's should go as fast as a cruiser and a crusier shouldn't be faster than a frigate and Indys shouldnt be able to travel faster than any of em. CCP obliged. Now, everyone is complaining about the time it takes to travel and looks to a Jump Drive to solve the travel time problem. PvP players will be up in "arms" about that as well. I can hear em now.."How the hell are we supposed to catch someone if they can jump systems at will"? "PvP is Dead" with jump drives.
Now it was my understanding in the beginning that jump drives are for Titans because they are so big they can't fit through gates. The power requirements for a jump drive are so great , akin to a couple of star gates, that only Titans will be able to produce enough energy to activate a jump drive. If the travel time is so bad that it needs to be changed, I think we need to voice that opinion en masse to CCP. I for one am all for changing the slowness of the game e.g. travel times.

1. For pvp : just add a signature that stay after ur jump , like in elite , and say were u go , when , eventually what kind of ship , and eventually wich character , if u know him . To analyse this signature , u will need a skill and a signature analyser .
2. For the ship : just make different kind of jump drive : . for fregate : very short range drive , u 'll still take a lot of time to traverse the galaxy , but usefull for short range mission . for indy : very long range , but slower speed than the other drives. . for cruiser , battle ship and other , increase the lvl with the size of the ship .

Sounds like an interesting idea. At last I'll be able to hop across to the Jove Empire.
Liked the Elite style signature analyser and remnant information telling location, ship type, etc. Could make Indy hunting more fun.
