No, I'm pretty sure the famous phrase doesn't go like that... let's see, it goes something like this: when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade. Or a Lemon Margarita... or Lemon Drop... okay, time for something relevant.
Well, as in all games and in real life too, life doesn't always give you what you expect. Eve Online is full of surprises and obstacles.
For example, your freighter is autopiloting in high-sec, and you've never had any problems with doing this before, and you don't expect any in the future. However, suddenly you no longer have a freighter autopiloting in high-sec. It 'sploded.
Congratulations, you lost over a billion isk (actual amount varies depending on your cargo). Now, what are you going to do about it? Are you going to learn a lesson and apply it to your game-play in the future? Or are you going to come to the conclusion that it's a bad game mechanic and you'd rather stop playing entirely? Your choice, and either one is appropriate: the first is preferable, but if you must conclude the second, by all means stop playing.
I recently experienced my own not-so-expensive surprise. I've heard of PvPers probing out mission-runners to shoot 'em, and I expect it to happen in fact. I like to take various measures to secure myself against them if I can, and I don't complain about it. Heck, if the situation was reversed, I'd probe out and PvP an enemy in a mission too. What I didn't expect was someone probing out my mission in order to salvage my wrecks. I lost a lot of potential isk.
I thought about what happened and what I could do about it. I can't shoot the probing-salvagers, but I can deprive them of what they want: my wrecks. Now I just let my drones be responsible for all the DPS in missions, so I can fit tractors and salvagers in my hislots. Instead of relying on my salvager-destroyer to clean up wrecks after I'm done with the mission, I just have my battleship salvage as I go. Not quite as fast or efficient perhaps, but it secures my isk.
Life hit me with a bitter, disgusting lemon, but instead of complaining about the lemon, I took it in hand, squeezed its juices out, and made a lesson out of it. Now I've got a Lemon Drop to drink.
What do you have? ---

I've always heard it as: When life gives you lemons, make lemonade, find the guy whose life gave him vodka, and have a party!
BTW, another solution is to mission in lowsec with friends around. Haven't had anyone try to salvage my wrecks... Wouldn't mind if they did -

Using your mission running buddies for bait is such an excellent tactic, ambushing the would be ambushers always give me a stupid grin, especially when they procede to ***** about it in local :D

Edited by: Wrayeth on 10/11/2007 19:39:58 I just spent over half my bank account getting my truck fixed. Clutch master cylinder was leaking and had to be replaced, the clutch itself was on life support (and had to be replaced, otherwise the labor would've cost more down the road when they had to take it apart again), and the freeze plugs were leaking, as was my radiator cap.
Oh, and because it wouldn't go into gear I had to have it towed to the service shop in the first place.
There go my dreams of a new computer when the AMD Phenom chips come out.
On the plus side, my truck is working. -Wrayeth n00b Extraordinaire

In EVE, when life gives you lemons, track life down and shove a lemon down its f***ing throat. Then sell the rest at a profit.

What are you insane? Lemon's acidic dps is WAY out of line with the damage types of similar sized fruits.

Do you know what your talking about? That's just paper DPS under special circumstances, The poor tracking of lemons fully offsets the potentially higher DPS so Grapefruits are clearly better.

But Grapefruits have a larger sig ! So that nullifies the tracking issues ! Ok, granted, they do have bigger alpha, but less damage over time.

With your juice and my intergalactic lemonade stand in Jita, we'll have the perfect combination for a great business venture.

PS: don't ask where the yellow lemonade colour came from - its 100% natural though (lemonade anyone???)

Sorry about your loss.
Just curious, how do you loose a freighter in high sec?
It got about 120k+ health not counting resists so even if concord is watching **** and have to put on their pants they should still have time to pop any gang/fleet/angry gf before they pop you?

10 to 30 gank-fit BSs should easily do it... depending on security status (CONCORD response time) and skill of pilots (i.e. DPS of each ship).

Incorrect. Web, scram, ransom for all he's got, proceed to blow it up anyways and loot/salvage.
Anyways, I sense the epicness is strong in this thread.
