I have a lot of loot from ratting. I mean, a lot. I am in 0.0, and find myself wondering which items would sell better than their mineral reprocessing amount is worth. I can use eve-reprocessor, but cycling through every single item would be just crazy. It would take me hours. I would feel a little obsessive compulsive by doing such a thing, so I ask you: Should I bother looking at every item, or just reprocess it all? I have over 100 different items, and many ammounts of each.

This is possible, but the OP will have to make sure theres a high enough demand for it to be worthwhile and that he is actually able to create all the orders. Other alternatives include: refining to produce your own ammo, shipping off to other locations, keeping for a rainy day, or as the op stated, refine just for the minerals
I agree that checking each individual module however is not obsessive compulsive. In fact, memorize them(you eventually will). It's very useful to know functions/stats of thousands of different modules ------------------------- OMG YELLOW TXT!

In the majority of cases (say, 90%+ off the top of my head) anything other than best named or 2nd best named, fetches as much in minerals as it does in resale, without the headache of sell orders. There are some exceptions, but for the few items you may have that are the exception, its your call what your time is worth.
Best named mostly fetch far more than their mineral value. T2 obviously far more. Faction again, mostly far more.

Edited by: Sigma Six on 12/11/2007 09:12:48 It also occured to me that I'd like to know how much I can get in both my 0.0 home and empire. I can stand to lose a moderate amount of isk, but I'd hate to miss out on a LOT of isk. Basically I'm wanting to find a decent risk/reward balance, but there are so many different things I could do, researching them all to even know what is the best option - let alone one that might be the worst thing to do, is seeming much too difficult. A few things I thought of:
- reprocess/haul to empire - sell
- don't reprocess - haul to empire - sell
- don't reprocess/haul to empire - figure out mineral values/sell accordingly
- reprocess/sell in 0.0 home
- don't reprocess/figure out mineral values/sell accordingly in 0.0
- build the carrier i will eventually fly
- build ships and sell in 0.0
Lots of options. Not sure which would be most profitable. I can see why CCP hired an economist.

I checked prices for all ~300 items I get from ratting. And using DB dump I calculated how much minerals would each item give when reprocessed, and with that calculated the price each item would fetch if reprocessed. Does that make me obsessive compulsive? (this was all done using PHP/MySQL, anybody interested in this program?) With that data, I calculated the difference between Jita price and reprocessing price. Per m3. And then carriered top 30-40 items (some 8000m3). Things that fetch good price are top and 2nd top named remote reps, guns, damps, boosters and a few other things.

Like a couple others have said, check their meta level. If it isn't one of the top two in the range, reprocess it. Only spend time figuring out if the best named or second best named items are worth selling.

sell them where you are try selling a few at a time and reprocess them if they dont sell fast enough in 8 days
do this with a few items at a time and it will not take lots of work but also teach you what is worth reprocessing ____ __ ________ _sig below_ devs and gms cant modify my sig if they tried! _lies above_ CCP Morpheus was here Morpheus Fails. You need colors!! -Kaemonn [yellow]Kaem |

I realise that you are posting with an exclamation point, but perhaps you have trusted or almost-trusted corp-mates?
You could just give them all the junk to sort through and give the ISK back to you. Even if such a team-mate is not 100% trustworthy and he or she skims a cut off the top, you might still be better off (time-wise and tedium-wise) than if you do this work yourself.

Edited by: Galgorth on 13/11/2007 05:40:56 Figure out which items are 'best-named' for their given category. Hold onto those and MAYBE the second best-named, and reprocess the rest. Intermediate named modules generally have weak markets, with low liquidity, low supply, and low demand, so you're better off just reprocessing them.
BTW, if possible try and find a friend who has maximum reprocessing skills/standings so you get the maximum amount of minerals. It makes a big difference.
On the other hand, you might want to skim through all the items yourself for the purpose of understanding. In the future whenever you run across an item dropped by a rat you will instantly know whether or not it's valuable.
