Edited by: Phantom Slave on 12/11/2007 17:34:26 So you're going to make some Competition for Chribba, yet you're going to limit the upload size limit which will stop alot of videos from being uploaded?

*edit* posted too early...
Anyways, I think it's a good idea, because it would take away some of the bandwidth from Eve-Files and let us download from both yours, and Chribba's at better speeds.
I wish you good luck! ____________________

The idea of it is for an extra mirror for people :) I would imagine people using eve-links and another for 2 options for people to download.

Edited by: Claska on 12/11/2007 17:33:31 actually, now that i think about it, i think its becuase of the unlimited file size that it gets hammered so XD, still like i said, anything like this will help the community, perhaps this can be like for smaller movie files, and eve-files for the bigger things?

Oh, I know that most videos aren't over 200 MB, but I have in my Eve-videos folder about 30 videos well over 300 MB, some of them reaching up to 800 MB.
I had to re-edit my post, as I ended up posting it too quickly up above. ____________________

Hi, It's not a per user limit but a per-video one of 200 MB, so somebody's EVE collection or a corps/alliances would be fine.
I do plan on having an archive section like that on eve-online for videos where people can place their corps/alliances collection and write something about them and show some screen captures etc.
As for the main eve-links.net site theres nothing to see at the moment :( I'll make a post when it is finished, feel free to send any suggestions as to what you'd like to see. We will be linking to existing cool eve sites such as ineve.

I wish you all the best and hope it turns out real nice.
As for the video upload I just want to give some views on what you are getting into from my experience of running EVE-Files.
While the option is good and needed I think the estimates might be a little too low, of course depending on how your rules are, is it 100GB per video per month or, 100GB in total for all videos?
While I tend to get hammered from time to time the bandwidth will be eaten very quickly when "high demand" videos arrive, no matter if they are big or small. EVE-Files currently uses about 800GB worth of bandwidth per day, so that might be something to keep in mind if you pay anything extra for bandwidth and such.
Videos will get hammered, trust me, and when they do, kiss any bandwidth limit goodbye
And also, what happends after the limit has gone? Error 404? I fully understand the max of bw per month, but is it put there due to the limit of your own connection or something else? Eg 1 video 100GB. 2 = 200GB, is the service scaled to host 500 videos?
This is in no way a post to discourage you, but having this experience in advance and at least give it a thought or two will with most certantiy(sp?) give you a steady base if you decide to take it further.
Best of luck and looking forward to see how everything turns out, and if there is anything I can help you with in terms of my own experience from EVE-Files and associated services just drop me a line.

Thanks for the input Chribba. We aim to be scaleable, as at the moment we have hardly any usage if the need came we could bring other servers online. I actually work for a webhosting company The limit for bandwidth is per video, the server currently has a limit for 6 terabytes. 100 GB for a 200 MB video would allow 500 downloads with most being less that would be more, if the video is ultra popular more would be allowed on the fly.
