Edited by: Earthan on 13/11/2007 07:07:57 I see a trend with complaining about any nerfing wich i think is ridiculous.
I am here from late beta and i will tell you how this game looked before some of the nerfing:
Scorpions and shield tanking: anyone fancy a scorpion with 97% resist across the board on shields?:) Was quite funny to try to kill one...
Tachyon beams: the uber weapon , everybody had them, on ravens, megathorns , scorpions lol you cant imagine how funny ships were fitted cause it was the best fitting.( maybe thats why ammar got it hard now, they must repent this past past uber fotm lol)
only bs in pvp.Without sig raduises and the like changes it was pointless to bring anything smaller then bs to pvp.Everybody had only bs to fight in .only. So a fleet battle was 60 bs us 60 bs without any other ships.Truth was it lasted long cause usually you could warp out when made proimary and fleet battles tended to be a bit boring.
Ships going 50000 km/s without any problems. You could fit as many ab mwds as you wanted. Result: I used to go into major alliances with a megathron 2x mwd and kill succcesfully, while no camp could stop me. Was fun for me but dont think it was so good for the game.
I could go on....
Point is nerfing is needed to balance the game.Sometimes it hit the nails sometimes it hits the finger:) but with time it did Eve unqeustionably a much better game.
Yuo cant alwys only boost modules to balance as you woudl have to think to boost all modules versus wich the module was overpowered wich can be a lot , hard to remmber about all, and would be very hard to maintain.
So plz stop this unreasonable voices" any nerfing sucks".

Dude, while I agree with you... understand this:
"Balance" is a very precarious thing. A tiny (even indirect) nerf here or there can radically change the balance of the game.
Now, with that said:
I have 3 characters. These 3 characters are completely different PVP characters. They have each trained along different skill paths, different races, different goals, and with different play styles.
Each of these characters are radically different. Each of my characters is going to be nerfed into near oblivion in the next patch.
The problem with only having 13-15 million reasonably focused SP is that when the nerfbat hits you, it will **** your world up. Now, the obvious question: WTF did you train FOTM for? You had to know it would be nerfed...
Well, sure. I trained Liang up as a recon pilot - the Arazu had to be nerfed eventually. I accepted that. I trained up my other two characters as "fallbacks" in case something got nerfed.
One of them was even training something ridiculously underpowered. I figured that even if my dictor pilot got nerfed (Sabre), I could fall back to one of the other racials (probably heretic tbh).
And what happens? All 3 get nerfed in the same patch - some 45M SP is completely wasted all in the same patch.
And you expect someone to be happy about that? Are you out of your mind? I trained 3 characters for the express purpose of avoiding the nerfbat no matter which way it fell.
I'm just beyond shocked and floored that they'd nerf arguably some of the worst ships in the game "in the sake of balance". WTF? It may come off as whining - and it is to a point. But damnit I feel entitled to whine when an entire 3 years worth of training goes down the drain in a single patch (leaving me without even a fallback or other useful position).
Also: Eve encourages specialization in your characters. It does this by having people WTFUBAR with 50M SP, but only having 30M or so possibly applied to any given ship.
So a guy with 15M SP has to be pretty specialized to really compete on the same level as the guy that's been playing for 4 years (but, fortunately, it is possible).
Side Note: "It's for the better of the game!" the new CCP balancer from QA says. (BTW, Zulupark, if you ever read this - don't ever tell a huge gaggle of developers that you're in QA. Seriously, WTF were you thinking? QA are the guys who come over and tell us that our numbers don't make sense from a "numerology perspective".)

Edited by: Adrian Steel on 13/11/2007 07:39:25 Choo choo! It's coming! Can you hear it!? It's the clue train!
Clue #1:
The test server is just that - a >> test << server.
Clue #2:
>> I << trained whatever the hell I wanted to train because I thought it was interesting. Not because I wanted to dominate the game and win Eve. As such, I sit back, relax, and watch with amusement as this and other forum sections are lit ablaze with hysteria. Thank you for your entertainment.

Sure, glad to be of service - but its not hysteria. There was quite a bit of anger as they "announced" they were nerfing the last of my 3 characters though. ;-)
I *ALMOST* cancelled all of my accounts on the spot - but then I decided that I'd wait to see what else they changed before really starting up any complaining.
Meh, but TBH, I thought Recons would be cool anyway - so I trained them. I thought Dictors would be cool because they serve a purpose in fleet combat - so I trained them.
You may *THINK* that you trained whatever you thought interesting - but you probably didn't deliberately choose the worst crap in the game to train for either.
And you also assume that I didn't pick (out of *AAAAALLLLLLL* the stuff in the game that is above average) something that I found interesting.
GG, WTS Clue.

Cant say abotu recent changes as im still catching up after a break, but i have written that the point was to stop" any nerfing sucks" not "certian nerfing sucks" .
Thats why this forum is for among other things to discuss ships balance.:)
So discussing specific nerfing is just fine for me.
I was just getting annoyed with more and more of poeple saying" any nerfing is bad.CCP sucks.LEave our game as it is"

On the plus side niag, your dictor pilot will get into a hactor pretty easily. And those are pretty damn good at doing the tackler thing. And since the other dictors were only really good for their bubbles, this doesnt change much.

only read the op.
Nerf post themselves arent unreasonable, when backed up by facts. The twin mwd Raven was an obvious example that could easily be demonstrated as being overpowered. Nerfing barrage tracking was another one.
However the recent 'nerf brigade' really havnt got a clue, they should be taken out and shot.

ok first of all thank you for making this at least a reasonably posted topic..my current character is still youngish but i've been playing Eve for about 1.5 + yrs and i love it..and i can easily see why people can get upset about nerfing..but knowing how Eve used to be and how its evolved helps me keep some perspective..you should see some of the other threads..yikes...i propose a caffeine nerf...

Only reason we should whine is to keep the Devs on their toes, and make sure they do a good job out of fear of more whine. but thats a darn good reason. Take a look at games where they dont listen to the playerbase at all, well those games dont fare so well over all.
Whine is a good long prospect deal for CCP if its kept serious and passionate. Its so easy for a business to turn short-sightet. Its our job too to keep those investors happy and openminded for grand game-related perspectives.

whining as of now is comparable to a senatorial camera scheming impeachment trials. nerfs are good if it serves the general public better. overdoing it to the point of medeocrity leads to anarchism. right now, you be the judge why nerfs whines are multiplying like rabbits. i mean, i trained specifically for drones and gallente ships are getting mega nerf like putting the slider to gimp level. though we're gonna expect newly turtle-waxed ships, popping the hood may leave players uninterested anyway. having frequent whines is just not healthy. i love tsikot.com |

People have the right to express their opinion on public forms. Just because you call it a whine doesn't make that opinion any less valid then yours.

what i meant is: a forum with too much whines is a sign of unhealthy community emotionally speaking. the forum serves as a "diagnostic" solution for the game for certain game imbalances to be treated. the point is however, the diagnostic results shows a relatively higher need of attention. right now, the devs should monitor the threads with intense care for a win-win solution and not conclude to nerfs immediately. just my 2 cents though i love tsikot.com |
