Was reading this little tidbit of EVE lore, but I've never seen a second star in any system I've been in. What gives?

I haven't read that since I first played, an am too tired to reread right now - but as far as I remember it talked about stars in the context of a close proximity primary+dwarf binary arrangement. This would (often) put the second star just outside the main planetary disc, but clearly visible as a bright star that is slightly more than a point in space.

Offcourse all these systems are binary... It's a computer game remember? :D -----------------------------------------------

Truth. From the orbit of Uranus, the Sun looks like pretty much any other star in the sky, apparently (according to photos sent back by the Voyager probes), and the distances between binary star pairs are generally far greater than the orbital radius of Uranus.
EDIT: besides, I think that particular piece of backstory is probably out of date, given how it talks about it being impossible to have more than one stargate in the same system, or how each individual stargate can connect to multiple other gates - presumably a game mechanic that was dropped and the backstory wasn't ever revised. - The game is not the problem. The problem is that you are not adapting to the game.

Stargates don't *require* a binary system per se... They just require gravitational resonances found in binary systems. It may very well be that technology has since been discovered which allows stargates to create their own gravitational resonances without needing the aid of a binary system.

Isnt that theory reffering to Jupiter as a failed sun?

You mean Nemesis. Interesting, but still unproven. And it's rather unlikely that it's the norm that suns have an invisible companion. But eve physics is special anyway.

i disagree that piece of backstory is the best ever and every piece of backstory doesnt have to 100% equal the game
who would wait weeks for a gate to reopen ?
no this piece of backstory is perfect the way it is

There's only 10 types of people in this world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.
