You buy them from the market or contracts. The Markets Blueprints are all originals whereas in Contracts you can buy originals and copies -- so be careful.

I have heard rumors that you can get blueprints from missions and rare loot but has not happened to me [only been playing a little over a month]. You buy tier 1 blueprints and use them to 'invent' tier 2 blueprint copies. There are several guides out there covering this and you should look them up. I have them printed out at home for then the time comes that I have the resources to play around with this aspect. From what I have glanced at researching for tier 2 can be time consuming and expensive with no guarrantee of success.

Check the hyperlink i provided to learn how to invent T2 blueprints from T1. It is no longer possible to obtain T2 blueprint originals, but as you are a brand new player, you would have no reason to be concerned about that anyway(tactful way of saying: don't go there, sensitive issue).

You can receive Blueprints - limited to X productions - from following the tutorial missions - I have a Navitas Blueprint that will allow me to make 20 of them - if I have the skill, materials etc
You can also purchase Blueprints on the market.
Be careful to check whats is being sold. Originals are apparently rare and expensive - so therefore anything you are likely to get hold off is a copy which will have a fixed number of uses.
I suppose manufacturing is a key skill involved ...
I am new too :-)

So the masses of BPs on the market are mostly copies or originals? Is there an easy way to distinguish between them?

The Market only deals with Original Blueprints. In Contracts you can buy original or copies. If you look at the blueprint it will either list copy or original. Original have 'infinite' under runs whereas a copy will have a number.
