Well jeez this is complicated.
READ IT
But since you are not inclined to read the patch notes or what you have acquired I will give you the jist. It is a pirate ship log and it usually contains the location to their base or some sort of spawn or secret location. Some of them will most liekly be not so important, while others could be IMMENSELY important.
But gee I dunno Im sure you will not be able to use warp drive to get there without posting on forum and saying "oh wow hey what is this, warp a who?".

For example:
This salvaged data from a destroyed Serpentis vessel reveals the following: "The DED has been making some inquiries into our operations in the Ouelletta system. We've been using the hideout for some time to disappear when heat is high. They haven't yet checked out the moon of the system's fourth planet from the sun, which is good. Soon they'll give up and divert their attention to more pressing business."

Just got one just now too. I was on a kill mission for my agent and one of the destroyed ships dropped this:
This salvaged data from a destroyed Sansha vessel reveals the following: "Sometimes my head hurts. Perhaps it's the Master's implants. I must be better at tolerating pain. Master wouldn't want me to feel pain. I must do what the Master wants. I feel compelled to go to the tenth moon of Andabiar V. I am sure I'm being directed there to increase my pain threshold. Then I could serve better."
I checked the place out and found nothing . Maybe I did something wrong but I went to the location the minute I found the log in the container.
Could someone post their findings or lack thereof?

Didn't you guys read the patch notes? You were supposed to wait for up to 24 hours at the place indicated in the log, while doing regular detailed scans of the area. 100k kilometers, I think. You can't just rely on normal scan mode.
I think you were also supposed to announce your presence by firing all weapons every 2 minutes. Oh, and you had to turn up in a frigate, or you'd scare the baddies away.
