Giant secure cans are intended to act as a secure place to put stuff, ore for example or other items in space. As it is noone can use GSC in space for mining because if you go to an empire belt or ice belt (if you dont crash) there are tremendous ammounts of cans left behind, probably never to be used again.
So, i suggest that for every can anchored in a grid with another celestial object we place a 14 day timer. If it is not opened by a member of the anchoring corp within those 14 days, it simply unanchors, alloying others to scoop it up for themselves.
This way it doesnt "pop" 0.0 ammo caches (which is what they should be used for imo) and will eliminate 70% of the empire cans that cause so much lag

Maybe they cause lag, but most important is that they create visual trash! -- Pocket drone carriers (tm) enthousiast !

Sounds good to me. They shouldn't last *forever*.

Change it so that cans chan be anchored anywhere, not just if 5Km around it is nothing, and I'll agree. Also, give us a way to see the timer without physically checking every can. -------------------------------------------------- I'm a rich person. How I know? I can afford to be a miner. |

Cool idea, I like it. Change it to 30 days for the first few months though, to allow people to catch on, and at the same time pop those GSCs into the nearest 0.5+ hangar that person owns. Then say, after 6 months, do what the OP says. I think this is the most humane way to do it honestly, and allows people to get used to the idea.

I know when I joined eve and did empire mining i anchored a load of gsc, at the moment thought I couldnt even tell you what system they were in, let alone the belt!
In a way it is a bit sad that they will reamin forever cluttering stuff up!
i'd love it if they could be stolen by someone else, or even use the hacking mod to "access" a GSC after 14d, so one you have hacked it then its yours, you can change password and you can un-anchor!

I hope this is a sick joke from the Devs. Or is it part of the "eliminate all solo-miners" masterplan? (Note that I said solo-miner, not solo-player.) -------------------------------------------------- I'm a rich person. How I know? I can afford to be a miner. |

I don't think its a sick joke, but a cool feature. Mean you have to clean up after yourself after you are done mining, or fit a remote repper and repair the can the next day. A GSC should be able to last 23 hours against frigates.

This was discussed at the Eve event a few weeks ago. One of the comments by a Dev was that they were looking into a system - something along the lines of "if the container isnt accessed for XX days, it floats away [i.e. destroyed]".
Its on one of the EVE-TV videos I think...
