Whats the difference between strip miners and modulated strip miners? I just spent a week and a half getting skills for the strip II and some crystals to put in it only to find it doesn't yield any more than my strip I.. What am I missing. I'm in a retriever. plz help.

Edited by: NoNah on 14/11/2007 20:50:55 Not sure how you look at it, a Strip Miner I will give less than a Modulated Strip Miner II with a crystal anyway you crumble the cookie?
For the actual numbers... Strip Miner I would at max skills give 970 per cycle, Modulated Strip Miner II w/ Veldspar Mining Crystal I would at max skills give 1051.

Lets get into numbers, shall we? Modulated Strip Miner II's are hardly useless.
Strip Miner I has a base yield of 540m^3. Modulated Strip Miner II, when equipped with the proper crystal of what you're mining [Veldspar for Veldspar, et cetera], is 360m^3 + 360m^3, or 720m^3 base. This is then modified by skills, and your ship, and whatnot.
So I'm pretty sure it's giving you more yield. If it's not, post a link to a screenshot of your fittings. Perhaps you're using the wrong crystal, or forgot to equip the MSM2's?

Ok, so a field test. I put one strip I on some omber and the strip II with omber crystal on another, in my ship with my skill I got: Strip I = 919.2m3 Strip II = 982.8m3
yes more but, wow, hardly worth the effort and not at all worth the expense. So I figured I was missing something.
my fitting is just a retriever and some strip mining modules. nothing else.

Welcome to EVE, the last few percents are the most expensive ones, they do however tip the scale. If you mine faster than your opponent, you will have more and better ships to field.

Thats not using TII crystals is it? Those help even more and are worth the expense imo.

You need to remember that the difference compounds with better skills. Get into a hulk and the difference will be much more significant. With Full skills, implants, t2 miners and crystals in a hulk you can push over 2100m3 per cycle on your lasers. compared to around 1500 i believe on your t1's. After an hour this would make a difference of around 36k m3 of ore.
I would highly recommend you check out http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=434899 for an excellent mining guide.

where you get that from? MSM yield is 360* crystal mod(1.625 for t1 crystals and 1.75 for t2) wich results in 585 base with t1 crystal and 630 with t2 ----- GIEV custom ship paint jobs! I want my hello-kitty-kessie!

From memory you gain a 17% bonus all-in-all with t2 crystals to your yield.

getting into t2 crystals will boost it even more with very little training time.
getting just to t1 cyrstals might not be worth it, but taking the extra time to get into t2 cyrstals makes it worth it.

16 2/3 .. but that's being nitpicky I guess
8 1/3% with t1 crystals
