Hi all, just wondering whether there is any way for other PCs to see what is in my cargo hold? I understand that Concord only provides disincentive (consequences) to those who attack me in high sec, but doesn't prevent it from happening in the first place, so I'm wondering whether PCs can make an informed decision about whether its worth popping someone in high sec.
Cheers

There are 2 modules you have to watch out for. Both are mid slot items:
- The ship scanner tells someone what modules you have fitted, and what your resultant ship attributes for speed, tank, agility and resistances are. Excellent for fleshing out prospective prey's capabilities and tank capacity
- The cargo scanner tells someone what is in your cargo hold. Contrary to what some will tell you, secure containers will not prevent scanners from checking what's inside them. This will tell them what a prey is carrying
Both will require a lock. You will typically not notice this because a 3rd mid slot module, the passive targeter is often used to lock and scan a ship without alerting it that it has been scanned. Because a lock is required, however, the best defense is to warp and jump out before a lock can be achieved. This makes interceptors (very difficult to lock onto) a great vessel for moving small volumes of very high value (read: T2 BPO's), while any fast aligning ship will usually get your cargo across safe with minimal exposure to scanners. And if you avoid the scan, you will usually avoid the gank because most suicide gankers will want to be sure their gank will be worth it. |

If you want to hide what you're moving I think you can use courier contracts. AFAIK there is no way to see into the package.

Just a small question in responce to the last post. If i was to set up a courier mission for an expensive item and use my alt to fly the package. If I was then ganked by Pirates would they be able to open the package if it survived, i understand that if someone does a courier mission for you they have no way of accessing what they carry.

As far as i know, you can break the seal on the package and access the cargo through the right click menu. Doing so will of course make it impossible to complete the contract so you'll lose the collateral. |

There's nothing you can do to stop them from scanning your cargo. No (secure) containers, no courier wraps, nothing.

Basically it boils down to eve being almost entirely an offensive game. To blow them up before they blow you up.
There are offensive modules that have no counter (AFAIK). Like NOS and neutralizers.
You can't prevent someone from passive targetting you, scanning you, or suicide ganking you if they want. All they need are an alt or 2, hell maybe not.
Your best best is to toss all the passive ECM mods you can (are there any?! I'm not versed in eve ew!) and defensive mods you can fit if you can afford to lose them as well. Yes. Even in high sec.

You sure can see whats in it.. You can 'open container' and it shows whats inside and it doesn't violate the courier mission. Now if you take anything out of it I'm sure it will violate it, but you sure as heck can see what you are carrying.

Thanks for the replies. A somewhat related question - can people see the implants in a targets head?

No, but generally in PVP, people tend not to have expensive implants as they're lost when you're podded.
And no, you can't extract implants out of corpses (yet).
