After finally having found out why WINE didn't start EVE without saying a word, I finally get to the login screen just like it would under Linux (ps: It was a WINE install problem, not a Solaris one).
Trying to connect, I get the error message "Connection Failure - Handshake Error". Debug output is this:
Unhandled exception in tasklet: Traceback (most recent call last): File "C:/Depot/eve/LIVE/common/lib\bluepy.py", line 23, in CallWrapper File "C:/Depot/eve/LIVE/client/script/ui/login/login.py", line 798, in _ClickConnect File "C:/Depot/eve/LIVE/client/script/../../common/script/sys/service.py", line 153, in __call__ File "C:/Depot/eve/LIVE/client/script/remote/connectionService.py", line 119, in Login File "C:/Depot/eve/LIVE/client/script/remote/connectionService.py", line 79, in Connect File "C:/Depot/eve/LIVE/client/script/../../common/script/sys/service.py", line 153, in __call__ File "C:/Depot/eve/LIVE/client/script/../../common/script/net/machoNet.py", line 1351, in ConnectToServer File "C:/Depot/eve/LIVE/client/script/../../common/script/net/GPS.py", line 589, in Authenticate File "C:/Depot/eve/LIVE/client/script/../../common/script/net/machoNet.py", line 143, in MachoLoads UserError: [OnConnectionFailed.infomodal] Connection Failed - Connection Failure - Handshake Error {'what': 'Connection Failure - Handshake Error'}
Any idea what this could be about? I'm behind a NAT, if that helps.
Thanks. ---

Having taken a closer look, before it fails, EVE's apparently polling for routing data. The WINE output right before EVE throws the aforementioned exception is this:
err:iphlpapi:getNumWithOneHeader Unable to open '/proc/net/route' to count entries! err:iphlpapi:getRouteTable unimplemented!
Does EVE really need the routing table to proceed with authentication? If so, why? Before I start delving into C after a decade, just to implement a rudimentary version of it to get it work. ---

It appears that the emulated Win32 function GetAdaptersInfo is the offender here, since it doesn't work correctly under Solaris WINE. :/ ---

I've spent some time hammering a crude implementation for getRouteTable into WINE, now the game works under WINE Solaris. I'm going to prettify the hack this weekend and submit it for consideration to WINE. ---

Awesome work on the hack! Let me assure you even if you don't make it pretty and submit it someone at WineHQ will. Great work!

that's why open source = i win button
----------- - reduce light, medium and heavy drone rof (default 2 sec) - server side event filtering for turret and effects - module grouping for less server calls - fix grid loading isses

Edited by: Kernel Sander on 25/11/2007 10:14:54 I'm sorry, I just have to ask this:
Why are you using a Solaris box as your game machine? Kudos on the hack, but I have this image in my head of the EVE client window positioned above the CDE front panel (i had to look that up, I originally called it the "CDE Dock") on one of those old, 4000lbs 20" Sun monitors and now my brain is leaking out my head.
P.S. If you *are* running under CDE, I demand screencaps.
