It's been a while since Eve-China was launched, so does anyone know what's going on on their side of the universe? Are there the same amount of pew pew, whining, scamming, and farming going on?

I think it turned into a huge grind fest/farming mania and any political developments only tried to mirror the communist party or something.

It is another Chribba thing. But, there was a good thread a little while back with players (really one or two) who played on Serenity who talked about it.

Eve China is failing due to the maximum 2 hour game time per day. Eve China kicks you out after 2 hours so most of the end game is useless. Even tricking the oponnant with alts to get them to waste 2 hours on their mains has become a valid tactic.
Also, once you drop pos's, it is hard to take them down. Would you fly a dread in a laggy pos seige that could get stuck with the game timer kicking you off before you jump out?
Again, Eve China would have been a major hit were it not for the 2 hour max timer that destroys the balance.

There have been a lot of people who've played for way to many hours and have died while playing MMOs in a number of asian countries (though mostly South Korea and China). I believe the law was implemented as a matter of public safety.
I wouldn't be surprised if some of the underground internet cafes in China have a way around the system other than using alt accounts.

The players on Serenity seem to be enjoying themselves and word is slowly spreading as more people find favour with the game style of EVE. The community is admittedly small but there are still interesting political machinations and all the usual things one has come to know and love about EVE on Tranquility. It is just a lot smaller. But we have plans which will hopefully change that within the next couple of months.

I thought the Chinese MMO Time Limit meant that you just stopped earning after the first (x) hours. In WoW it would mean that after (x) hours, no more XP. You could still grind for lewt, just no XP. Which, if anything, is the farmers' dream.

Best I can find out about the 2hr limit is this ...
"In 2005, China announced new laws intended to combat online game addiction by requiring game companies to impose increasingly severe in-game penalties on players that play longer than three hours at a time. It is unknown if any of the proposed laws were actually implemented."

why is there a 2 hour timer?
My understanding is that the game auto logs you after a certian amount of time because in order to comply with Chinese law, CCP made it this way (otherwise they would likely not have been given the go-ahead to even open the server).
This is the nature of communist nations. Simply put, the state controls you, and you're not free to do what you want.

the actual law restricting play time applies to those under 18. And it's not 2 hours. There is a first 3 hour timer where you can accumulate XP at 100%, after that there is a 2 hour timer where XP is gained at 50%. After the 5 hours total you cannot play. Minors are also not allowed to PvP afaik.
i can only guess as to how CCP changed Eve to fit within these parameters. Possibly your SP rate is halved and eventually halted while your online, but SP continues after you log off as long as you have a subscription.

I play eve proper (the western version) even though I live in China. I also play on eve-china and I haven't noticed any auto logging or SP hafling after a few hours.
I don't even have any problem playing the normal version of eve and I live in downtown Beijing for gods sakes.
Though, I must say, eve-china's macro farmer community is silly. I was at a lan cafe just today and they had on their machines macros ready to be used by players, lol. I told them that's illegal in the game and the workers there just said "O.I.C" (meaning Only In China - common saying among foreigners that is now a bit of a in-joke among beijingers).

The time limit is a regulation to prevent game addiction, and is only applied to accounts that are registered as minors (under 18's). The way it works is that you get a notification after the third consecutive hour of play. Then a notification every hour until the 5th, when you are disconnected.
The trial page for EVE Online in China is here, but do note that you need a valid Chinese ID number to register for a trial account. And if you want to look at the official site for EVE China, that is here. But both the client and the website are only available in Chinese.

Bingo! MMO farming is rampant there. They consider it a legal source of employment. As long as their government maintains trade imbalances, artificial currency value and unfair trade practices, why should the populace be any different when it comes to values?

Originally by: CCP Whisper The trial page for EVE Online in China is here, but do note that you need a valid Chinese ID number to register for a trial account. And if you want to look at the official site for EVE China, that is here. But both the client and the website are only available in Chinese.
Valid ID as in social security number or similar?
Wonder if I had to do that last time I tried... since I now have a valid trial key?
OMG, it all makes sense now!
