Gang, I'm trying to remember the title of an old Sega Genesis Sci-fi/Space game. You had a ship, crew. It was RPGish in that you could upgrade your skills, crew, ship. You could control landing on planets and then tool around in your little mining vehicle dealing with earthquakes and weather and such.
Anyone remember? There was even a sequel.
Mass Effect kinda reminds me of it, other than the FPS stuff. Any help appreciated. :)

Starflight! That's it! Thanks man. :) I always wanted to see an "updated" version of that game. That one and "Space Rouge" for the PC.

They had Starflight for Genesis? That seems... dated. Was it an early title or a hanging-on translation?
For modern Starflight see Caldari Cormorant Hull. ----- TANSTAAFL

Starflight is awesome. Theres currently a remake of the original as well as a new sequel titled Starflight III, oddly enough, in the making.
Linkage
There are links to the III project on the II page of the wiki, as well as all sorts of fun info.

Yes, they had Starflight on the Genesis ANd it looked way better than the PC version. And you also got a fold out map of the galaxy as well. It was a pretty fun game with exploration and mystery.
SPOILER!!!!!!!!
I kind of liked solving the mystery and finding out that the fuel I was mining was actually an alien lifeform. Man, it's been nearly 15 years sense I last played that game but I remember it vividly.

Ah the joys of scanning a planet and finding it's composition to be rare minerals ripe for mining
Or habitable
And the misery of being jumped by dozens of rabid Uhlek ships
Still to this day wonder what the hell the Binary aliens were all about, I heard that they gave a phone number to the company HQ or something but who knows.

I loved trying to land on planets with the heavy gravity and smashing into the surface. :)
It's still the ONLY game I know of that has anything close to take-off/landing on a planet that you control, rather than just a cut scene.
Glad I'm not the only one that remembers it.

It's a pity we're out of that small investment low expectation phase of game development. It allowed developers to be super inventive cause the cost of game production was lower, and the expectations were less for what constituted a good game. There were alot of innovative games back then. Now the bar is so high, you have to spend alot in production just to make some minimal.
