Idiosync	Posted - 2007.11.16 02:54:00 - [1] Hi, I am new to Eve, so dont really know anything about the politics/alliances in Eve. But on the in-game map, ive noticed that BoB controls a massive section of 0.0 in the south, and everyone on the forums is always talking about BoB and Goonswarm and the war they are having. Can anyone fill me in on the history of this conflict/what is actually happening?

Paulo Damarr	Posted - 2007.11.16 03:20:00 - [10] The Band of swarm started it when the devs gave them blue prints and the Goon brothers didn't like this and there was lots of smackity smack then the Band of swarms invaded the space the Goon Brothers liked to hang out and munched up there frigate fleets which got them mad so they declared war and then fought them till today. In-game, they differ very little from every other two-bit outfit. They allegedly come from a closed forum somewhere, and thus view the rest of us with contempt. This is most visible when they call everyone else "pubs" or "pubbies" which is believed to be a leet-speak derivative of the English word "public" as in "public person", i.e. not someone from their forum. B(L)oB are made up of a few of the older corporations in EVE. Their arrogance is contained in one simple strategy; that all of EVE belongs to them. In many ways they became the Microsoft of EVE, and are scorned simply because they were more (arguably) more successful than any of their competitors. Arrogant, pig-headed, manipulative these creatures appear more disciplined on the forums than their competitor, which might be their only saving grace. The actual events leading up to, and fuelling the conflict are long forgotten and quite frankly, they are not worth talking about. There were accusations of foul play, paranoia, arrogance, out of game threats, hacking, criminal activity, and a general disrespect from both sides, that made everyone else sick to their stomach. Since the original poster is a new character, there is no way we can confirm that this is not another troll. I will give you the benefit of the doubt though.

I heard someone from BoB died in RL and Goons made a joke of this, so BoB sworn that Goons will never get a foothold in EVE, is that what you mean ?

Goonswarm sucks and are actually first and foremost players who all met each other on the Something Awful forums. In the past they've cheated by altering the game client, hacking other alliances websites, and generally don't really give a flying **** about which game community they try to ruin. Thus both sides are kind of lame, and oh, they hate one another and now they fight. Goonswarm also spams the COAD and one of the leaders used an anti-semitic slur to describe one of BoBs allies. So, essentially, both sides are kind of unlikable. -Karlemgne

Wild Rho Amarr GoonFleet	Posted - 2007.11.16 09:11:00 - [30] Your best bet is to use eve-search to do some digging around for older threads (the eve-o search feature is pants). Another option is to simply skip a good number of pages back (100 or so probably) in the Corporations & Alliance Discussion (COAD) and just start skimming through the threads to get a feel for the events that took place. You're unlikely to get a nice clean story\timeline on what happened (and particularly why) as each side has their own version plus everyone outside the war will have one of their own too.
