So what drives you to continue your grand EVE experience? No ulterior motive here, just curious as to what keeps your subscribing and logging in on a regular basis.
Personally I'm in this for the crazy ride. I've never seen so much potential in a game, and theres no way in hell I'm gonna leave and miss out on what is and may become more so a revolution in online gaming and virtual societies as a whole. I love the free structure of character development and single-server nature of its community... and the kewl internet spaceships .
Enough of me, what keeps you playing EVE? -------------------------

Believe it or not the community there are actually some decent people out there not that the forums always reflect that.
Of course the mixture of open ended gameplay, pew pew and the promise of this game getting so much deeper in the coming years just makes it all the better. EvE does sometimes feel stale and boring but at the end of the day we are still here so there must be something good.

I stay for a few things, so here's a list.
1) The good fights. They may be few and far between, but it's still alot of fun. 2) Carebears smacking because i blew up their caldari ships in lowsec. It's really quite amusing and never gets old. 3) Corpmates. 4) Non-consentual pvp. 5) The fact that being smart is rewarded and being stupid usually has dire consequences.

I like strategy games and mmo's always have and this seems one of the better ones a good blend of strategy and mmo.
Though they are falling into the trap a lot of ones I left fell into. That is nerf and dumb down all the content.
Lets hope they sort it. (or do I mean leave it alone cause it was pretty good, only needed a few tweaks not wholesale change.)
But till a better one arrives or this gets a lot worse , here I am.

Training.
Nothing more.
Training.
It's the pot, ganja, white line, angel dust, whatnot of this game. Without it, when you got bored, you wouldn't come back. And ANY player who's man(or woman) enough, can say that EVE gets boring at times.
IT's a bit too "work" oriented, even IF as such, it's good and a bit different from the MMO line.

Edited by: NeoShocker on 17/11/2007 13:24:09 Friends that I invited to Eve, my corp and couple of people within alliance, like CVN USN especially. :) Able to do whatever choices you wish to do, such as mining, pirating, R&D, Moon Mining (just started into it), and there are few other still waiting to be tried out.
Biggest attraction that keeps me in eve are: everyone plays in one server, time based skill training, and history of characters, and best of all... Players are able to grief, scam, as long its within game mechanics, which is probably the most unique thing for a MMO.
Other special mention is that its space and pew pew and there's no elves ingame, plus most players are aged 24+ and mature enough. :) -----------------------------------

Was discussing this with a friend the other day who doesn't play the game (yet). He thought it was the coolest thing that you could get ganked as a noob, wait a while for the killer to forget, get in his corp, and backstab him when he leasts expects it without getting banned. Yeah, scumbags love Eve. :)
Its kind of interesting that the devs seem to be the gentlest, kindest kind of people, but they have developed and maintained a universe for the real bottom feeders. :)

I don't really remember why I play. I started Eve for the economics and the PvP.
Now I'm rich and I know the truth about PvP, so here's the quick and typical 7 month lifecycle of an Eve player:
1. Noob joins Eve, starts training skills so that in some future time, he can start having fun.
2. Noob has trained skills, has no ISK. He starts grinding through missions / rats so that he can buy / replace ships in anticipation of having fun.
3. Noob participates in multi-hour fleet searches, lowsec gatecamps, lagfests galore....Realizes that PvP in Eve isn't fun.
4. Noob quits Eve.
Fortunately, CCP does manage to keep them around for about 7 months on average; all the new players are so used to grinding that they're willing to spend the time training skills as an investment in some "future fun."
Except...that fun never actually comes along. Trying to get PvP in Eve is like a job.
"Man that gatecamp for 4 hours!"
"Fleet is forming up at 19:00! We need 250 pilots! Then we're going to fly around 0.0 for 4 hours looking for a fight!"
Call me spoiled, but when I'm playing a video game, I want to have my cake and eat it too. Instant action. Some place where people like me can hang out and kill each other freely, and as equals. Where Eve isn't a job.

He's not in an alliance. He couldn't make it in 0.0, so he refuses to believe anyone else can, at least unless they secretly hate it. The psychology is obvious

In my case, I hope for factional warfare, ambulation, back to more little interesting 'stories'. I'm a bit bored of how EVE is played in 0.0 currently, because there is not really interesting stuff happening on a political/social level imho, only the rsf vs. bob thing and massive blobbing, which I just don't want to take part in. So well, I'm waiting. Good thing it is has cured my addiction and I'm back to doing some other stuff again like learning things that interests me and programming. Neocron, EVE, WoW and some other mmorpgs have sucked up too much of my time and I feel that I'm a lot dumber now than only 5 years ago, due to not using/practicing what I once knew and trying to advance there.
So well, somehow I guess I should say thanks to pos warfare, blobs and goon vs. bob, it's bringing me back on track.

Yes SiJira, I have. Made a lot of ISK doing it. =p You can catch some old threads in C&P about me pirating.
And to the nitwit from SMASH - there's a LOT of people just like me who open Eve, train skills, close Eve, and wonder why they're still playing. Not because they don't like their alliance, but because things in Eve aren't FUN.
I've been running community events and giveaways to stay interested. This last week I've been playing Warcraft III: Frozen Throne. One campaign left to go, then I'll kick over to Dragonshard. I've still got a lot of PC games that I've never beaten.
I keep paying for Eve in the hope that soon, one day, it will make PvP fun and engaging. Then I'll return with a vengeance.
