Quote: This is not the first legal case involving someone simulating sex with an inanimate object.
* In 1997 Robert Watt, 38, was fined ú100 for trying to have sex with a shoe in an Edinburgh street * In 2002 the same man was arrested for simulating sex with a traffic cone in front of a crowd of people * Earlier this month, sentence was deferred on teenager Steven Marshall, from Galashiels, who admitted simulating sex on a pavement while drunk.

They missed the point a bit. Who gives a **** what a man wants to have sex with. I doubt they'd charge him if he went to hospital cus he tried to **** a knife would they? No, they'd just laugh.
He was 'playing' in the privacy of the hostel where he had been staying for 6 months (iirc). Who gives a **** what he was playing with, so long as its not a kid / ***** / girl on roofies / animal. It was a bike ffs. If that's what he likes, then let him do it. It's not going to hurt anyone.
The fact that the article there is going after the fact that he was ******* a bike, rather than that it was in his, well, his home as it were, is surprising, as afaik, BBC usually hit the point on the head. The point isn't that it was a bike, it's that it was in his private space

I think the lesson to be learned here is that if you're charged with a crime so ridiculous it'll probably be thrown out of court, don't be stupid enough to plead guilty to it.

He's on the sex offenders register, which is bad enough. And if he'd pleaded not guilty, he'd have gone to jail for sure. ---

Sure, but sodomy (in example) is still illegal in many places, despite it taking place in private and between a consenting male and female couple. Never underestimate the states' interest in things it should have no business regulating.
Sex is just sex, yet most places have laws that interfere with it, regulate it and make aspects of it illegal. Never understood that, myself. __________________________________________________

Brings new meaning to the phrase "If I catch you using an aerosol can in a manner other than directed..."
And they had to bring in "if it was a woman with a sex toy..." ok, women kinda got the big end of the stick on this one... that would be awesome

Because it's taking away our privacy? How would you feel if someone arrested you for having a **** in your bedroom? ---

That's what I mean.
I don't get the sheriff prosecuting that in that manner.
Once upon a time you'd have never heard anything about that unless the guy got it stuck up there and had to go to A&E and then it would have been one of those funny stories you hear about that stuff. EVE RELATED CONTENT |

I wonder if a woman doing herself with the bicycle pump would have received the same treatment?

I'm fairly convinced there has to be more to this story than I've seen reported so far. It really doesn't add up with just what you read on the BBC article. The BBC's standards really have been slipping for the past few years, so it wouldn't surprise me.
As for what could be missing: maybe if when they unlocked the door and came in, if he put on a "performance" for them, or something along the lines of that.
If it really is as simple as "they walked in on him doing stuff" then the legal system really has failed big time IMO...

This whole case is weird. Not just because it's a couple miles down the road from me, but because I don't see why it got escalated to become a crime.
I worked as a chambermaid in a hotel years ago, and there were occasionally people who would take the "do not disturb" sign off the door, so they could hide when we came round, and jump out and reveal themselves at us. Scary because people jumping out is scary, not because they're waving their thingy at us.
What would normally happen is that the hotel would ask them to leave, and wouldn't accept bookings from them in the future.
There were also times when people hadn't left the sign out, but that's a situation dealt with by knocking on the door and announcing "housekeeping" before and after opening the door. If they didn't hear or notice that, then if we disturbed them it's a case of "Terribly sorry, there was no answer"
I don't see why the police got involved in this case.
Furthermore, I think the hostel is one of those dealing with homeless or otherwise disadvantaged people, often with personal problems they have difficulty dealing with. Quite often these are run by the local government, but in any case, the staff working there need to be trained in dealing with people with problems, and should expect to occasionally come across things which aren't normal.
This whole thing is bad news. It tells people living in hostels that they have no right to privacy within the hostel. This is going to make the people more prone to paranoia, depression, and other problems, because they are afraid the hostel people will be looking at them.

THINK OF THE BICYCLE CHILDREN!!!!!
Seriously though, WTF. This entire case is insane, there's absolutely no justification for putting him on a sex offender list.

If it's in your private residence, I really don't give a **** what you have sex with as long as it's isn't objecting to it.
Even assuming that it was some bizarre fetish, there's no moral or legal justification for locking him up or putting him on any list assuming that he could function normally in society otherwise. ---------------- Tarminic - 29 Million SP in pink Forum Warfare |
