I have a proposition.. I see High Sec Mission runners complaining about these low life wreck salvagers all over the place.
How do they find you? Drones?
How can you defend yourself? Drones!!!
At the end of each mission as you complete it... send out a single drone... and leave it behind as you warp away.
I propose to call this measure "MIST" as stated in the subject line.
We will leave behind a thin mist of drones in the heavy mission systems and the scanning low life wreck stealers will be forever defeated.
I pledge to leave behind a lone drone on compleation of each mission.... possibly even an extra one at the locati0on of each group of wrecks as I salvage after compleation of the mission.
Join the solution since CCP has deemed that it is a game mechanic that they intend and fight game mechanic with game mechanic!!!

Edited by: Tsanse Kinske on 20/11/2007 01:30:49 Don't tell me: you're just looking for lots of free drones.
Seriously though, the strategy might work if in hubs it wasn't already more efficient to scan for ships rather than drones. Also, anybody who just warps to a random drone hit without also seeing a mission ship on their directional scanner is not too bright. * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

I already have a solution, he's called an alt and he salvages each room as I go.
anyway...
If I had to take a wild guess at how many missions get invaded by a 'wreck thief' it would be 1/1000 and it's probably way less than that.
Edit: Seriously the more people who whine about this the more it makes me wanna start training for probes
Second Edit: In fact I'm gonna note down the names and use my locator agent to find out where their running missions. (after I've trained probes ofc)

Edited by: VicturusTeSaluto on 20/11/2007 01:28:56 lol. Get out of high sec if you have a problem with someone's legit salvage operation. Then you can fight back.
Also.... There are already lots of old drones any place where mission runners have been.
If you have ever done scan probing this would cause you no trouble at all, you can combine the directional scanner with the solar system map and see if this result has mission wrecks or if its just a lone drone.

I thought it was much harder to scan for the actual ships at the deadspace pockets and the scum are mainly homing in on drones to find their prey.
Correct me if I am wrong.

You are 100% wrong. This would do nothing to combat your imagined problem. It would make it EASIER for someone to find your missions in the future as it would provide them with valuable bookmarks.

No, you're right. But in hubs it's stupid to scan for drones rather than ships. By their nature, there are enough targets in hubs that you're going to get a hit either way, and there's already plenty of abandoned drones around hubs. Also, see my edit about the directional scanner above.
The drone strategy is better in systems where there aren't many targets, or you're looking for somebody specific. "Hunting" rather than "fishing". * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

I don't think I have ever been sent to the same location twice for a deadspace mission how can dropping off drones at each of these unique locations be giving them valuable bookmarks?

Your idea dismantled
1 - scan for drones 2 - warp to drone 3 - drone is abandoned - scoop drone 4 - eventually you will find a live mission site

Well at least it would have the effect of getting rid of the ninja salvagers who are getting a free lunch with little skill or dedication in their chosen "Proffession" and actually warping randomly to drone sigs. Admit in high sec there is little to no risk at warping to drones in hopes of hitting an active mission.

wow, you really know nothing about probing. Just stop posting. Being able to get in range of a stronger probe is everything when trying to find someone in deadspace. Probing without bookmarks of previous missions is a huge pain in the arse.

I don't think drones alone on an empty grid would cause any lag whatsoever unless someone scanned them or went there. But someone, sometime, will put forth the idea that objects that no-one is near generate lag. -

The simple fact of the matter is that the larger the table gets, the longer it takes to index or seq scan it for objects that fulfill a certain property.

Most of my mission-probing successes were with ship hits, not drones.
And as someone already stated, directional scanner makes this idea worthless.

Hmmm. Alliance-owned stations with agents - the ultimate safe ISK fountain?
Well why not? If they're balanced for hi-sec, why not in 0.0?

My point was, risk vs reward is broken - this is an easy fix. The alternative is much better missions in 0.0 but then we get inflation. So just nerf the profitability of high sec instead.
